Sleepy Hollow "The Vessel": To Protect Those We Love

Why hello there Sleepy Hollow, welcome back and how I have missed you. Sleepy Hollow this week returned in creepy form as the show tackled it's own version of demonic possession. The Vessel by all reasons was Sleepy Hollow's own excorism tale allowed some of it's characters to grow more. Which we should welcome back our second favorite Mills sister, Jenny. In a way it brought Team Witness closer together than before and giving them purpose for their mission. That and a good old ghost story, gotta love those. I have to admit during The Vessel my mind kept going back to Supernatural and what it has taught me about demons and ghosts. I really love how salt is a common to keep demons out, and that despite this similarity Sleepy Hollow has made it's own thing. That is what a good show is supposed to do. Make something it's own and keep the audience entertained. Which makes me sad to see that Sleepy Hollow didn't win a People's Choice Award for best new drama. Is Reign that good of a show? I'm alright with it though since I know Sleepy Hollow is a fantastic show and it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The Vessel starts Sleepy Hollow off in the new year with Ichabod trying on some new clothes courtesy of Abbie. Much as I kinda didn't want Ichabod to change his look (it suits his character), the new clothes looked fantastic on him and his revelation of how horrifying skinny jeans are was amusing and so true. I honestly don't know how people wear those. Elsewhere, Irving is continuing to investigate the man who gave him a warning about his daughter not being strong enough. In the station the demon arrives and gives Irving a warning, "Washington's Bible or else the demon will come for Macy". So Irving brings this matter to the team and asks them to figure out how to stop the demon. So Ichabod and Abbie look through Corbin's files and discover a case he had dealt with before. A possession case involving Jenny. Jenny Mills returns and the duo ask her about it. Jenny reveals she knew about it, but didn't remember anything about it. Elsewhere, Irving stashes Macy and his ex-wife away for protection not knowing the demon is lingering by.

The Vessel proved to the another excellent addition to the season as well as developing some of it's characters. I'm talking more specifically Macy and Jenny here. Well mostly Jenny in my opinion. So far Sleepy Hollow has painted her as the troubled sister who is a badass on occasion. She appears when the plot or Abbie needs her and then disappears again. In The Vessel, we learned there was meaning to Jenny's actions and how, after everything, deep she cares for her sister. Sisterly love, its a beautiful thing. Also with her possession, it helps flush her character out more and make Jenny seem more awesome. As for Macy, she didn't seem like a character that was just placed there to fill in space, but rather one that help drive the story and stakes higher. In addition to showing us Irving's devotion to the cause and to his daughter. Now we need to talk the demon possession and how Sleepy Hollow has set it's standards for certain levels of creepiness. With an excellent use of imagery to achieve this goal. Although I can say after Supernatural there is very little creeps me out anymore. Well at that level anyways. Although let's take some time to appreciate Ichabod in modern day clothing and the subtle short joke the writers made with Abbie. Also Ichabod finally learning how to use the pause button. I'm so proud of you my bearded friend.

It is debatable whether or not The Vessel is a filler episode for Sleepy Hollow looking at it an arc point of view. Sure this demon is a part of Moloch's army, but in the end he is just a piece of it like how the second horseman was almost released back in John Doe. Although I do find the filler episodes of Sleepy Hollow to be enjoyable so its not a total waste of time. I do have a question though, where does Jenny do when she is not on screen? Is she staying at Corbin's cabin or living somewhere off in her van? Also what is the point of the ex-wife? Was she there as a distraction or a package deal with Macy? I guess when Irving said "family", he meant her too. Although Irving knew that only Macy was in danger. Oh the details. Anyways I hope that Sleepy Hollow doesn't turn her into a booty call (I support Irving and Jenny).

It's always great to come back to a show on hiatus on a good foot and The Vessel certainly did that. It was an enjoyable hour of television. We already loved Jenny and The Vessel gave us more reason to. Although this does make me realize this could possibly be the calm before the shit storm the 2 hour finale will be. Yes, Sleepy Hollow finishes it's first season next week and we will have to wait until the fall before anything new comes out. At this rate I am going to assume that we are most likely to get a cliff hanger at the end that will shatter our world. I got that vibe, didn't anyone else? Should be fun right? See you all next week and brace your feels.

What is your opinion on skinny jeans? Kidding, do you like Ichabod's brief new look? What did you think of the little bit of Jenny's back story?
