Arrow "Sacrifice": The Truth Will Set You Free

Someone will die. With a title like Sacrifice for a show like Arrow, how could someone not? Not to mention Arrow does make it easy for you to prepare yourself for this as almost everyone, except Oliver,  has the potential to die during Sacrifice. Other than that Sacrifice was a great way to tie everything up and deal with some plot lines. It also journeyed back to the island where the gang manage to take action against Feyers. Sacrifice, much as the story was fantastic it benefitted from great performances from it's characters as well as the relationship established between them. The time for games is over, the undertaking is now. Dark Archer and The Hood face off for the last time.

Sacrifice begins off with Oliver captured by Malcolm who wakes Oliver from his memories of his father. Our hero is hanging by his arms in chains as Malcolm tells Oliver that he can't stop Malcolm's plans and can't beat Malcolm. Oliver resorts that it was Malcolm's fault he was on the island in the first place and the undertaking is not honouring Malcolm's wife. When Malcolm leaves, Oliver uses it as an opportunity to escape and heads back to the his hideout. Felicity calls to inform them about what she has learned about the device, and as soon as she ends the call, Quentin picks her up on the hacking charge. Just when Quentin is about to nail Felicity on hacking and helping the vigilante charges, Oliver calls informing Quentin of Malcolm's plans for the glades. Quentin takes action by informing his superior about the plan to destroy the glades and is forced to reveal he has been working with the Hood. At the mansion, Oliver confronts Moira about the undertaking and tells her about how his father died. Oliver tells her that he doesn't people dying so he could be safe, and then Moira gets a call from Malcolm, informing her the undertaking is happening tonight. Team Oliver has to move fast to stop the disaster from happening.

There is just so much that happened during Sacrifice that I can't possibly touch them all. There is the obvious mind game Sacrifice plays with us in the second half of the episode as it basically sets all it's character for a possible death. As I mentioned above, there is one confirmed death that we see and will have it's impact in Arrow next season. Arrow has always had this large cast of sorts, and Sacrifice found a use for them all, in a way that suited their characters. Not to mention mended some bridge between people. We're talking Quentin and Laurel and their on the rocks relationship, and Oliver and Tommy with the little love triangle/love/hate thing going on. A relationship that wasn't having any problems at the moment were Oliver and Diggle as they took on Malcolm together, cause as Diggle put it, "...army regulations... a soldier never lets a brother go into battle alone." At that point I was cheering at the strong friendship between these two. Now we need to talk about Malcolm. My god he was intense as everything was coming around and about to come to and end. John Barrowman really showed us his character belief in what he was doing and the frustration at his plans being meddled with. Go Moira though for showing some backbone against Malcolm.

Now there was very little about Sacrifice that nagged me. I really have to think about it as Arrow really was showing it's guns this week. The flashbacks didn't have as much impact as the present timeline did. Since Arrow was focusing on the present much more, this was expected. It was a simple, escape, stop people from dying and kill the bad guy plot. Although we did see Oliver pick up a bow for the first time. The little thing with Felicity seemed like Arrow remembered that Quentin was investigating her and had Quentin bring her in. Although this did pay out as Arrow used the opportunity to allow the Hood to be painted as a good guy to Quentin.

Well that is it boys and girls. Arrow season 1 is now officially finished for the 2012-2013 season and will return this fall with season 2. Sacrifice was a great episode as Arrow used all it's characters in a wise manner and being the dark show it is, leaving them all in danger. As for Oliver/Laurel, I'm not really emotionally invested with those two yet, but I think with time I can be. We'll have to wait till season 2 to see what happens. Not to mention how that character death will affect the next season. So see you all next fall, and thanks for tuning into my reviews for Arrow.

Who did you think was going to die? What your theories on season 2?
