After the events of the previous episode The Devil Will Drag You Under, Alphas takes a small break from their usual solve a crime routine as the characters are in mourning. Life After Death shows the team in shock after Dani's death, especially Rosen and Hicks. Essentially, Life After Death is more of a filler episode than anything.
The episode opens with Rosen shopping for coffins for his daughter (which is sad to see Rosen do), after watching videos of her growing up as a child. Elsewhere the team is at the office on the weekend to keep working on the investigation while Hicks is mourning in his office. Then Clay and his men appear in office telling the team to give over all information Rosen has on Parish. The team is not happy with this, but comply. Except for Hicks, who finds out Rosen approved this, and stomps off to find out why. A lot of this episode is Rosen remembering his interview with Clay and going through Dani's apartment. Skipping ahead to the baby. Gary is given a baby by a mysterious woman, and team begin the search for his parents. Then two people show up claiming to be the parents, and Gary suspects they're not.
Life After Death, in a way, is building up tension for a much bigger episode coming up. I like how it didn't make its characters pretend that they were fine, because they seriously were not. Hicks was moping about and even went as far to ask Nina to push him. Rosen didn't stay at the office to keep it off his mind, but instead went to his daughter's. What was also great about this episode is fight scene in the office. It was up to Bill and Nina to protect Benjamin/Luke and they brought it. I was more wowed by Nina's fight, since she is normal the calm collected one without an alpha ability to fight. Also found it interesting to see Gary take care of a baby so well. He doesn't like people touching him, but the baby finds his way into Gary's heart (lets ignore the alpha ability for a sec).
I can't say that Life After Death was my favorite episode though. I felt that the baby plot was a bit random and only forged for something for the other characters to do. Life After Death also gave us an explanation to what Dani did to Nina, but it was nothing more than her just showing Nina how she felt. I really don't want to keep picking at this episode, since its supposed to be like a remembrance to Dani. That and I can't think of anything more without feeling like a douche for pointing it out. Although I did expect more rage from Hicks. Also felt that Clay interviewing Rosen on the incident was pointless since there was probably paper work somewhere that would tell him the same thing.
We will miss Dani as the characters will do. Life After Death was a slow episode in the Alphas universe, but it gives us character changing moments. I expect to see action in the next episode, as Life After Death built up the tension. See you next week!
