When you hear you Underworld you immediately think of vampires, Lycans (cause its not called Werewolves), intense battles and black leather clad kick ass vampire named Selene. And you know what, its completely true. When you go to see Underworld you know what your getting into, and this installment of the franchise did deliver what its previous installments gave the viewer. In addition this film is in 3-D, which makes it more kick ass, although I think it would have been just as good in 2-D. Although the 3-D makes one scene in the movie make you more dizzy as the screen spins. You'll know what I mean when you see it, cause its very hard to miss.
So the basic story is that humans have now discovered the existence of Vampires and Lycans and have begun hunting down the two species calling it an infection. Selene is being hunting as well, but quickly gets rid of all her opponents. She rushes to Michael (not the same actor as in previous movies) who is waiting for her at the dock. Like the movie it is, Selene rushes to Michael and end up in the water. So lets skip to the bit where she is captured and breaks free like the bad ass she is. When she escapes she immediately begins her hunt for Michael, but instead finds their daughter. Ya, Selene was pregnant and had a baby while frozen.
For an action movie, Underworld Awakening does a great job. Although the story is thin in some parts, the actions will help you not notice it. 3-D helps a bit, but I found that 3-D made the movie more "shiney". As for Sci-Fi fans there is a couple of familiar faces. There is Robert Lawerenson (Declan from Sanctuary), but has a minor role as a police officer who finds Selene in a restricted area. Kris Holden-Ried (Dyson from Lost Girl) also appeared in the movie and had a slightly more important role as the huge Lycan (or as I like to call him the King Lycan since the bigger thing is always the king). But seriously another wolf character for Holden-Ried?
If your a fan of the series you will like the movie. If not, you like a story that holds drama and romance go watch something that suits your tastes, or watch and let your brain go. Then again a lot of movies this day and age are requiring you not to think anymore.
