Merlin casting a spell while protecting himself from the gas.
Out of all the episodes so far, I feel that Aithusa is a Merlin heavy episode. Spoiler in the main line, but for you fans of the knights of the round table, have no fear, they do appear. Just not to that much. As you saw in the preview, Merlin hears about the last dragon egg, and knowing Merlin he sets out to get it. For those who have not seen season 4 yet (which is not a lot of people), sorry and seriously stop reading. Aside from the spoiler warning, this is the first episode that Arthur has become king, so there is some subtle changes.
We meet a new character in this episode who really wants to find the tomb of Ashkanar. This Julius Borden character is someone Gaius knows, and spells out bad news the moment he first appeared on screen. Merlin overhears the conversation of Julius and Gaius and being the Merlin we know and love, decides to trust Julius. Obviously a bad move since Juilius betrays Merlin. Arthur and his knights soon follow with thee intentions of destroying the egg. This episode had its own humor elements with Merlin checking for wood worms, the knights bullying poor Merlin, and for those who love Arthur, I can do nothing BUT sum it up. Haha see that I made a butt joke. For those who have watched you'll get what I mean. To sum it up, Merlin resorts to means to get the key, which lands him in a weird situation.
Although this episode had its high notes, it had some low notes. I felt that the character Julius was a bit of a waste but I can say I do hope he returns in Series 5 to make some trouble for Merlin. I also didn't understand the random picking on Merlin, but I guess they need something to make the episode humorous. Also did anyone get the feeling that Aithusa is going to be future trouble? Next episode, its looking like another war, but this time Arthur is king. Not to mention Morgana will be returning.
