Merlin Wicked Day Review

After all the dark times, here comes a more light hearted episode. Don't get me wrong, the season premiere was amazing, but had a dark mood to it. The Wicked Day brings us the same humor we have watched since the first episode of Merlin. Merlin in a way get Arthur back for the times he ordered Merlin around. Besides being a humorous episode, it still has its dark elements and is a major turning point for Arthur.

So without giving anything away, the plot goes a little something like this. Its Arthur's birthday and celebrations are being held, not even Uther can resist joining in. Yes he is still depressed about Morgana, but at least he cares enough for his son. At the party there is a knife thrower who manages to drug Arthur (sleeping drug) and attempts to assassinate him. Father figure to the recuse and Arthur's life is spared but at the cost of Uther mortally wounded. Arthur, like a good son, looks for a way to save his father and suggests to use magic. Meaning we will be seeing an old Merlin soon.

This episode was quite humorous, and once again played on the Arthur Merlin friendship. Merlin will always be Arthur's trusted ally despite good intentions gone wrong. One good moment in the episode was the scene when Arthur is slightly tipsy and the two talk and it is eventually reveal that Arthur's pants had fallen down. What makes it funny is the fact that Arthur takes appearance highly and values his wit, but he too can be a bit idiotic. If that makes sense. Another great element to this episode was when Merlin turned to old Merlin and found his own way to mess with Arthur. Like yelling at Arthur for breaking his "favorite pot". Colin Morgan knows how to play humor beautifully and in is top form when he becomes old Merlin. This episode managed to hold itself beautifully and Merlin proves to be yet another great Sci-Fi show from the BBC.
I'll leave you with the preview for the next episode.
