Supernatural "Rock and a Hard Place": Hit That Virgin Reset Button

So um guys, Sam and Dean reclaim their virginity. No, no, I'm serious. This week on Supernatural with Rock and a Hard Place, virgins are going missing with a connection to a church group. It really doesn't like something interesting, but it does have it's charms as Rock and a Hard Place brings back Jody Mills and  tackles the case a bit differently. I'm glad to see Jody Mills back and her getting into the hunting game. We saw her do that back in season 7's Time After Time (which was one of the more decent episodes of that season). In a way, it was Jody Mills who saved Rock and a Hard Place along side all the virgin, sex, and church jokes. With this week, I'm making my own little theory about Zeke and what his plan is. I think hes just healing Sam enough and gathering more power for later on. What do you think? My current issue with Supernatural is that with it's recent episodes, it's kinda losing it's touch. I mean I do love a good gag but compared to other episodes over the years. Not to mention compared to all the other tv shows I watch (specially Person of Interest and Sleepy Hollow), Supernatural doesn't stand out much.

Rock and a Hard Place began with our victim of the week as after she feed the homeless, she noticed she was being followed. So like anyone being followed, she tripped and hid under a car. It wasn't long before she was found and captured. Next day at the bunker, Sam and Dean get a call from Jody Mills about it and head down. There they meet up with the only witness of the kidnapping of the girl, and soon discover the connection between all the missing girls and a church group. So Sam and Dean head there and discover they the missing people were all members of a virginity club that promised to save themselves for marriage. Unable to sit in on a meeting without a membership, Sam and Dean sign their own virginity pledges and become born again virgins. After the meeting, Sam and Dean being asking questions about the missing people. This is when Dean talks to the group leader who offers to give him some books for study, and Dean decides it's a good time to seduce the group leader. Back at the motel, Jody is doing research and discovers that all the victims had broken their vows and Sam worries Dean might be next.

Rock and a Hard Place was definitely an interesting episode for Supernatural and there were some vital elements to it that made it decent. For me it really was Jody Mills who was the star this week as her newbie status in the hunter world was entertaining as well as her attitude. Don't you all love sassy Jody Mills? It was entertaining to see her shock at learning angels and dragons actually existed. I love Sam's answer to that too with, "Yeah. Too many things are things". It might be my favorite line of Rock and a Hard Place. It also kinda describes Supernatural at this point in time. I loved that Rock and a Hard Place got Sam to finally admit his little lady problem he has had over the years. You know the one with how every woman he sleeps with eventually dies. Nine seasons, and Sam admits it lol. The best moment of the episode though has to be when Dean begins talking about sex at the church group in detail. Over sharing Dean? Rock and a Hard Place was a bit unique too with how it told it's story with the Winchester's investigation and the place where the missing people are being held. That was a really cool way to move the story and keep it interesting.

We need to talk about how Supernatural is a bit on the low right now and Rock and a Hard Place falls into that category. Compared to other shows on tv right now, Supernatural is not making an impact at all. Don't get me wrong I love Supernatural and it's my alright favorite tv show, but compared to shows like Person of Interest and Sleepy Hollow, it's dull. I'm more inclined to talk about Person of Interest and Sleepy Hollow right about now. The whole virgin thing in Rock and a Hard Place was a bit silly, and the only thing that really sold it was Dean's glee at it. With the reappearance of Jody Mills, it really makes me miss the days of Supernatural's strong characters like Bobby who was around to help the boys. Sure Kevin and Crowley are still around, but Kevin is not a fighter and Crowley is currently a blood junkie demon. As for Zeke, he is turning into a bit of a douchebag angel since he is beginning to meddle. Rock and a Hard Place was really nothing ground breaking for Supernatural.

So where Supernatural is heading this season I have no idea, but we all can remember Rock and a Hard Place as the episode where Dean got excited about getting his virginity back.......for a couple hours. Hope we see Jody Mills again since she is a great addition to Supernatural. Next week Supernatural hits it's mid season finale and that looks promising. Downside, there is no Supernatural until the new year. Let's hope that the mid season finale isn't too emotionally damaging. See you all next week.

What did you think of Rock and a Hard Place? Do you like Jody Mills?
