Arrow "The Huntress Returns": Lady Problems

Wow Oliver has no luck with the ladies so far this season as his former girlfriend, Helena (the Huntress), returns to Starling City in The Huntress Returns. Arrow returns in good fashion from it's hiatus this week as it drives into basically how why he keeps his secret and how it hurts those he loves more. The Huntress Returns shows us what would happen to the people he cares about if his double life become one. That was not the only plot in town as The Huntress Returns also dealt with the aftermath from Laurel's mother showing up, and Tommy learning of Oliver's secret. Oh, did I mention that Roy Harper is back? Gonna be fun right?

The Huntress Returns doesn't waste time in bringing Helena back into the picture as she begins her hunt for her father's whereabouts. She starts by taking out her father's lawyer at a strip club. Elsewhere, Oliver is making the final touches on his nightclub before opening. Oliver is content and heads down to his base and Diggle notices Oliver's good mood. Oliver comments that he plans to take the day off, but that is pushed to the side then Diggle informs Oliver of Helena's return. Oliver tells Diggle to look for Helena so they can stop her from hurting anyone else. It doesn't take Oliver to find Helena, since when he arrives home to find her there with his family. As Oliver gets Helena out, she mentions her want for him to help her hunt down where her father is being held, but Oliver refuses to help her murder people. Helena leaves, not before mentioning that she is willing to hurt the people he loves in order to get his help. So Oliver gets Diggle to put security on his family, and soon attends to his nightclub opening. Helena manages to sneak in though and grabs Tommy, and uses Tommy to get Oliver to help.

What I liked about The Huntress Returns was how simple it was, and that is what made it work. This proves that Arrow can be decent without all the emotional twists and turns and other complicated plot devices. Not only that, but balancing all the plot lines quite nicely. What really drove The Huntress Returns was the mixing of Oliver's two difference lives and how they threatened each other's existence. Not only that, but the problem of Helena herself, and how she represent those lives mixing. Oliver knew she was a murdered, but couldn't kill her, nor send her to the police. Also doesn't help that Helena was a bit mentally unhinged. I take you all have seen My Super Ex-Girlfriend, cause it's kinda like that. The Huntress Returns was also charged with dealing with the aftermath of Laurel's mom returning and Tommy finding out Oliver's secret. I have to say I like how Tommy dealt with Ollie's secret. Unlike others, Tommy didn't see Oliver as a hero, but a murderer, like the police had painted him. In addition, Tommy was still angry at Oliver for not telling him. As for the whole Laurel's mom returns thing, I think that Quetin really stole the moment as he let his anger show when the woman who left him shows up, and bring up the matter of his daughter still being alive despite Quetin finally letting himself be at peace with Sarah's death. Yup, that man has some issues to deal with.

Now what made The Huntress Returns not such a hot episode? Much as I love a simple plot that works, it was still simple and for those who thrive on the complicated plots you signed in disappointment this episode. It was indeed convenient that Helena's dad suddenly got out of jail. You have to wonder though how she figured out how she found out all this information. In typical Arrow fashion there was a flashback scene that had very little impact on the episode itself. I have a feeling that it building up for another flashback heavy episode in the future.

I enjoyed The Huntress Returns as Arrow made use of it's large cast quite nicely. Speaking of which, Arrow continues to grow it's cast with yet another announcement of Manu Bennett (Slade), becoming a season regular in season 2 along side Colton Haynes. Makes you wonder how Bennett's character is going to play out in the overall Arrow plot. As for Haynes, its no surprise to me that he was made a series regular due to his character being really embedded in show's mythology. Anyways good episode this week, and looking forward to see the Sarah is alive plot play out, and how Roy/Thea will grow. I'm already shipping them a bit.

Are you shipping Roy/Thea? What would you do if you were in Oliver's situation?
