Beauty and the Beast 'Proceed With Caution': Be Kind, Rewind

I'm happy to say that Beauty and the Beast learned from it's Pilot and fixed some issues in Proceed With Caution. It's not perfect, but it's better than what it could have been. More than anything Beauty and the Beast is a work in progress, and hopefully it will keep with that trend. This week's episode looked to find a good mix between the relationship of Catherine and Vincent as well as the crime story in the plot. Not to forget the season arc of the secret government group after Vincent.

Since Catherine had found out the identity of Vincent as her savoir, she has taken it upon herself to visit him and investigate her mother's death even further. To her disappointment, Vincent is not there and Catherine gets a call about a murder. Catherine walks onto the scene of a murdered ballerina who fell from a building, and it was declared a homicide. At the scene, Catherine meets Vincent on the roof, after he like basically grabbed her from behind. So not creepy. Anyways the conversation is along the lines of "I want the truth about my mother", "I don't know anything and that girl is lying" and Vincent leaves.

So Catherine continues her investigation and soon finds herself back at Vincent's hideout. JT is not happy to see her, but Vincent lets her in and they talk about her mother, which Vincent tells her to let it go again (which is excellent advice), and then Catherine asks Vincent to go to the police about what happened to him. Vincent reveals a bit of his past to her and shows her a photo his platoon. Now this is the part that annoys me, after showing Catherine the photo of his past, she goes and takes it to "help" him. Vincent is not happy about it either and Catherine's computer gets trashed due to her scanning it in he database. So Catherine is soon faced with solving the case, making up for her mistake, and watching her back with Mulfiire on her back.

Now Beauty and the Beast got much better in Proceed With Caution as it began to build a okay formula for each episode. I think we all can agree that it was getting very annoying very early with Catherine's obsession with her mother's murder. Luckily Vincent was taking it very cool and didn't beast out on her. I like the fact that Proceed With Caution quickly put this plot point to the side to make room for more interesting plot points that wouldn't make us want to strangle Catherine for being so annoying and having a one track mind. This week's episode also focused more on the murder mystery than it did in the Pilot, although it will never be the greatest as it takes backseat to the story of the relationship between Catherine and Vincent. I do like where Beauty and the Beast is headed though with the relationship between these two characters. There is an obvious attraction, but it appears that the show itself is taking the relationship along at a healthy pace (I hope. No one likes a dragged along relationship).

All we all know Beauty and the Beast is a fairy tale love story between Catherine and Vincent, and this this territory comes with a certain amount of cheesiness. As I mentioned above, Catherine going on and on about her mother was not very sexy of her and frankly annoying. It is amazing that Vincent can keep his cool about that, but not other things. Also I was just right surprised that Catherine had taken the photo without Vincent's knowledge because she thought she knew what she was doing. I think it's common curtsey to not take something without someone's permission. In fact I think that's called stealing. Also, I still think that Catherine's partner, Tess Vargas, is a sidekick.

Despite what the critics think, I'm going to stick with Beauty and the Beast. There is just something about it that I like to watch, and keeps me coming back (other than Jay Ryan). It must be my inner teenage girl talking. Proceed With Caution was a good episode was it built a friendship between the two main characters as well as undoing some mistakes done in the Pilot. At least the whole "who killed my mother" thing is aside now. Right?
