Beauty and the Beast is really doing a learning curve with the series as it is learning from each previous episode and fixing it's formula further. All In found a way to bring Vincent into the fold of the case of the week each episode. I guess this is influenced by the fact that Catherine and Vincent are getting more closer with the coming days. Now that I think of it, Vincent kinda did what Catherine did last week and did something he wasn't supposed to. So lets dive in to the episode review.
So this week's episode kicks off with Catherine confronting JT where he works and asks about Vincent's well being. After the whole Murfield is out to get us, Catherine leaves a message for Vincent with JT. Skipping past the sister scene, Catherine gets called to work about a murder of a judge. This time though, she is not a point, but manages to catch a suspect who looks pretty good for the murder. Her gut feeling is confirmed when Vincent leaves her a message that the suspect is innocent.
This leads Catherine to stop by Vincent's again. Thus insert Arrow like work out scene and a buff Jay Ryan. Catherine comes in asking why Vincent left that message and finds out that he can confirm the suspect's alibi, not that he can come forward. Then he admits to having followed Catherine a bit since the events of last week's episode. He is only stocking you because he cares, Catherine. Back on the case, Catherine couldn't let go of it and gets kicked off the case and sent home. Partner-less, and badge-less, Catherine continues working on the case, and gets Vincent involved when she finds something she needs his help with.
The core of Beauty and the Beast will always be the relationship between Catherine and Vincent as their relationship grows as the series goes on. As I always have with Beauty and the Beast, I like watching the relationship between the two leads go and find a way to connect. They first were strangers connected by an event, and now friends, helping each other. This includes her being able to calm Vincent down when he goes Beast. In addition to that cute little note sending session. In All In, Beauty and the Beast seeked to bring Vincent into the case of the week formula in a way that makes sense. They found a way by invoking Vincent's past as a doctor and the fact that helping people made him feel good inside. Which it should when you help people. I also feel like I should mention the ending and how that could be a great story arc unfolding that could affect both Vincent and Catherine.
Despite all the good All In brought, there was just one thing that majorly bugged me. First and foremost, what annoyed me was Catherine's partner Tess. Beauty and the Beast has never really told us how deep the connection between these two partners. Are they friends, or good working partners? How much should Tess have Catherine's back? Well clearly the writers don't know either since Tess got all pissy when Catherine got her desk duty. Most cop shows have the partners having each other's backs and trust each other very much. But Tess is used to fit the story when necessary no matter how it doesn't make sense. So one second shes like you ruined my career and the other, I got your back. In short I really don't like the character of Tess.
Beauty and the Beast is slowly learning what works and what doesn't as the episodes progress. I only hope this learning curve continues. Not to mention I am excited to see where Beauty and the Beast heads after the ending of All In. Beauty and the Beast continues to be my guilty pleasure.
