Lets get down to business and bring out the spoilers (lucky for me I managed to summarize them elsewhere) and discuss it.
- As mentioned before, the theme for this season of Supernatural is "The Raiders of the Lost Ark", but how does this apply to Supernatural? Well like looking for the lost ark, Sam and Dean go right from the start looking for power essentially which just so happens that Crowley is looking for as well. New showrunner Jeremy Carver comments “They really want something. It ties in very deeply with the mythology [and is] something very near and dear to their hearts. They are very much united”. Sam and Dean on the attack hmmmm?
- Who will the Winchesters be up against? Well Crowley of course. It seems like Crowley is getting a bigger part here to play than previous seasons and could possibly be the next big bad. Edlund warns that Crowley will be “much more antagonistic…. He is going to be an issue.” Mark Sheppard adds, “We’re kind of chasing after the same thing, so it could be a problem.”
- Many of us expected Sam and Dean to be separated for a couple of episodes, but the writers have a different plan. Sam and Dean are going to be reunited again early as episode 1. How is this possible? Well the Supernatural storyline will take a one year jump, and tell the time the boys spent apart from each other in flashbacks. At least this is something different and we can expect the flashbacks to spread across the season.
- What did Sam do with Dean gone? Well Sam got out of the hunting lifestyle and went to live a normal everyday life. Padalecki commented, “Sam got out of the life. [He was' without Bobby, Cas and Dean, and had no Kevin in sight. Sam [basically said to himself] ‘everyone I know is dead’. He didn’t know what happened [to Dean].” Which makes sense, and wasn't family the true reason why Sam and Dean kept hunting? Although its looking like Dean isn't going to be too happy about Sam not looking for him. You have to admit you feel for Sam for being utterly alone. The bright side, Sam becomes a better hunter because he understands more what hes fighting for.
- Sam is gettin' a girlfriend. She is a doctor by the name of Amelia, and they meet while Dean is in hell. Will this be a big part of the season? The producers/writers assure the fans that the relationship will be only minor to the story. In a way, Amelia is like Sam's version of Lisa, but different. Amelia will also be seen in the flashback.
- Like any good characters, Sam and Dean have changed with their experiences. Carver comments, “When they were separated at the end of last season, it had a profound effect on each of them. Each has gone a very separate way that they will each carry with them. The relationships that they made in their time off from each other will carry forward and will be very important in each one of their lives. They’re going to have to come to terms with dealing with the other relationship in their lives.” They are also going to be keeping secrets about their experiences from each other. Supernatural lives on the relationship of Sam and Dean, so this should be good.
- There is a new recurring character coming to Supernatural this season. It has been revealed that a vampire by the name of Benny helps Dean escape Purgatory. Benny will be portrayed by Ty Olsson. Ackles tells, “That character doesn’t just go away. [He/she] is going to stick around, and, of course, cause problems. Because Dean is indebted to this character for his exit [from Purgatory] it makes the situation volatile. That’s how the onion gets peeled back [about Dean’s time in Purgatory. It happens] through Dean’s crazy relationship with the new character.” I sense trouble coming Dean's way this season. Especially since Dean is not planning to tell Sam about his relationship with Benny.
- What about Castiel? Misha Collins has confirmed that Castiel will be returning this season and it is unknown how many episodes he will appear in. It has been confirmed that Castiel will be in episode 2 of this upcoming season. The fans can expect to see Castiel in flashbacks and probably in present day. Although it has been mentioned that Castiel could be returning back to his old self, but not completely due to his experience in Purgatory.
- Everyone saw Jim Beaver and asked, "When is Bobby returning?" Jim Beaver comments “It’s Supernatural [and] anything is possible,” and adds “I’ve said ‘anything’s possible’ 7,000 times this weekend.” So it is unknown how and when Bobby could possibly return. My bet is on flashbacks.
