Castle: A different spin on solving crimes

Promotional image for Season 3 of Castle.
The ABC drama Castle is yet another tv show about solving crimes among many other crime solving tv shows. So what exactly sets Castle apart from the crime solving mass? Well two things exactly. One, its a partnership between a detective and a writer solving crimes together. Two, Nathan Fillion from the Joss Whedon fandom. Debuting in 2009, Castle now has four seasons and is already renewed for a fifth season in the 2012-2013 season.

Castle is about a novelist named Richard Castle, who is a successful murder mystery writer who one day gets his life turned around when a detective comes to him with a murder following the plot of one of his books. Although, Richard isn't frighten by this, but is ecstatic and curious. This soon leads him to working side by side with detective Kate Beckett at the NYPD solving homicides. In addition to working with her follow detectives Javier Esposito and Kevin Ryan. At home, Castle lives with his daughter Alexis and his mother, Martha Rogers.

Castle is a nice blend of comedy, mystery and action. In addition to the play on the sexual tension between Castle and Beckett. For viewers who enjoy a good sexual tension between two characters, Castle would be something you might want to check out. Others, that plot line might tire you out a bit, like it did for me. After I took a break from watch Castle, I continued on watching because there is more to the show than just the relationship between Castle and Beckett. Like the long running story of why Beckett's mother was murdered and the whole conspiracy behind it. There is also little nudges towards Fillion's previous show Firefly (most notable in Vampire Weekend).

Overall Castle is a decent series and not completely terrible. It is still one of the generic crime shows out there, and the thing that sets it apart is the fact that Richard Castle is a writer. An episode of Castle guarantees though, a good laugh as Castle makes up ridiculous theories and plays with things he shouldn't. Castle also has some amazing episodes that has great stories that make you want to find the next episode soon as possible.

Personally, Castle is not on my must watch list, and I'm going to look around for it. But if its on tv, I'll watch. Although I'll probably check out Season 5 and see where it went after Season 4's finale.
