Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. |
I can't stress how much of a success The Avengers is. I have posted earlier talking about how this movie could have been the biggest movie yet or the worst attempt ever. Either way The Avengers was going to make history. It certainly did by having the 2nd biggest Friday opening after Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2. What makes The Avengers so great is the fact that it gives each character a moment to shine and make us love them even more. Even characters like the Hulk became even more likeable (not that we didn't love him before) and gave them purpose. The Avengers storyline neatly wove in all the story lines from all the movies that lead up to this movie so continuity is not an issue.
The storyline of The Avengers begins with Loki arriving on Earth again and stealing a powerful energy source from SHIELD. Realizing that this could take a turn for the worst, Nick Fury decides to use the Avengers initiative. So the agents of SHIELD set out to collect the members. Once Black Widow escapes capture, she goes to collect Bruce Banner from his self imposed exile for help on tracking the power source. Agent Colson goes to get Tony Stark, who recently just built a new tower for help on the recent issue. Nick Fury visits Captain America in the gym and offers the mission. Thor pops in later and offers his assistance.
Together all they set out to stop Loki, but there are some obstacles in their way. A hero wouldn't be a hero without obstacles to overcome. For Captain America, he has to deal with the fact that everything he knew and loved is now gone and changed. Thor wants to help his brother, but also wants to protect Earth. Bruce wants to get the job done fast and leave. Tony believes there is more to the situation then SHIELD is letting on. This eventually leads to high tensions between the team members and argument breaks out.
Essentially, The Avengers is an action movie and we know that in the end they will all get together to save the day.Which leaves the last portion of the movie dedicated to this big final battle between the Avengers and Loki's army. Even within the battle scenes, The Avengers doesn't leave you brain numb like the way Transformers does. It gives you a nice blend of action and dialogue that separates it from being yet another action blow crap up movie. The Avengers even adds humorous elements that makes it even more enjoyable.
In the end, The Avengers is worth all the hype it received and is a great movie. Although I would not recommend it for those who are not fans of the action, superhero genre. Otherwise, you should check out The Avengers, and it wouldn't hurt to watch the respective movies that lead up to it. Me personally, I'm thinking about watching the movie again soon. You know, cause its awesome.
