Sam and Dean heading to the case. |
Party On, Garth in general lived up to my exceptions and some good key moments that will make it more remember able than it should be. In a way, Season 7 has been doing this a lot. Giving us amazing episodes that go up in the Supernatural episode hall of fame, while others don't stand out as much. Without certain factors, Party On, Garth is just another filler episode. Thanks to Mr.Fizzles, and the surprise at the end, this episode was about average. Then again, no show is perfect.
So in Party On, Garth, we saw the return of DJ Qualls as the character Garth who we previously met this season in Season 7, Time For A Wedding. Garth as we know, isn't the conventional hunter and its wonder hes survived so long. Garth arrives in town about a apparent ghost haunting (but we all know its not), and "garths" her. But that doesn't stop it, so Garth calls in Sam and Dean. You can prepare yourself for a bunch of Garth antics that will make you want to face palm or chuckle at, but like Dean said, you get used to him. But one moment that stood out was when Garth brought out Mr.Fizzles, the sock puppet. Yes its silly, but the idea has used it before and now is quite funny. Supernatural, being the show it is, managed to pock a little fun and gave Mr.Fizzles his own credit where he was credited as himself.
They eventually figure it they're hunting a Shojo, a Japanese creature you can only see when your drunk. Let the drinking begin. I've read some other reviews on the episode (I really like IGN), and I like their point of how Supernatural remembered you shouldn't drink and drive. So they make Sam take a taxi in the latter half of the episode to the crime scene with an old slow driver. I really wish they mixed a fighting scene in between Sam taking the taxi. Now that would have entertaining.
The Shojo is soon defeated by a sober Dean. That is kinda ironic since Dean has been drinking all season long, and is suddenly the only one sober. As for Garth, its similar situation to Season 7, Time For A Wedding, he gets knocked out and wakes up saying, "What did I miss?".
The highlight moment of this episode was when Supernatural played again with the idea that Bobby was still around. This is where Garth's character is out to good use when Garth realizes that Bobby's flask is giving off EMF. Garth mention this to Dean and thinks that Bobby might be haunting it, but Dean turns it down. We can see Bobby's loss still hurts the boys, this even leads us to a scene where Dean is calling for Bobby believing he is around. Sam talks to Dean about this and mentions they could be just imagining it like normal people. But Sam is wrong. As they exit the room, we see a familiar figure standing facing the door. Bobby choose to stay behind and watch over Sam and Dean. When I saw Bobby I let my inner fan girl out, and it went something like this:
Next episode will be in two weeks and is title Of Grave Importance. Sam and Dean get called by an old friend from their past (theres been a lot of that this season), but when they arrive there she goes missing, so they have to go looking for her. This eventually leads them to a haunted house, and as Sam states in the trailer below, its one of the most haunted houses in America. Did I mention the boys are going to see Bobby again? Watch the trailer below. See you all in two weeks, I'll post information on the episode on the Wednesday before it airs.
