Supernatural Change Up

Current showrunner Sera Gamble, and future one Jeremy Carver.
News broke yesterday that there is going to be a change up in the show runner for Supernatural. Since 2010, Sera Gamble has been running Supernatural, and has been getting not so positive response from the fans. This could be the case of fans missing and being loyal to Eric Kirpke (creator and previous showrunner) or them not getting what they want out of Supernatural.

Jeremy Carver is no stranger to Supernatural either. He joined the Supernatural writing team back in Season 3 and soon brought us episodes like A Very Supernatural Christmas, Mystery Spot, Free To Be You And Me, Changing Channels, Point of No Return and other titles. Carver soon left Supernatural though after Season 5 and went and created the US's Being Human. Now Carver is up for the next show runner of Supernatural. Since the CW is changing show runners, this means we can expect to see Supernatural renewed for a Season 8.

Lets take a look at Sera Gamble's run of Supernatural though we before we judge.

In season 6, she brought back Sam, but without a soul. So the first half of Season 6 was figuring out what was wrong with Sam, and how to get his soul back. This half of the season was a nice storyline and even brought us Clap Your Hands If You Believe. The second half of the season dealt with the disappointing villain Mother of All. In a way it hid the real master plan with Castiel and Crowley teaming up to find Purgatory. Gamble herself wrote Exile On Main Street, Appointment in Samara, and Let It Bleed.

Now in Season 7, we opened it with Castiel as a rampaging god, and as a potential enemy. That didn't last long as Castiel realized he was wrong and was soon taken over the Leviathans. Castiel soon passed away and was followed by Bobby. Killing off these two character instantly made fans rage and complain about how she is ruining the show. It didn't help that the first half of the season wasn't at its strongest, but it did have some hit episodes in Slash Fiction and The Mentalists. Although, Season 7 did have a strong opening with Meet The New Boss (penned by Gamble) and Hello Cruel World. The second half of season 7 seems to be stronger.

Gamble has been with Supernatural since the first season and it was a step up to take on Supernatural after Kripke left. Opinion on her is mixed with some fans screaming that she ruined Supernatural. In my opinion, she's keeping it alive by running it and giving fans the show they love. She may not have found her groove yet (and nor will she), but she tried her best in her attempts to make plot lines changing and original. Although during her run, Supernatural has slightly lost the flare it had when Kripke was running the show.

So we can be hopeful to a season 8, and can look forward to see where Jeremy Carver takes Supernatural with Robert Singer (Produced and Co-showrunner).
