Merlin Sword in the Stone Part 2 Review

Merlin convinces Arthur to pull the sword from the stone.
Well thats it boys and girls, Merlin has concluded its fourth season and now is currently filming the fifth. Really excited to see what storyline Merlin is going to play with. Personally I love to see Merlin reveal his magic to Arthur next season. Sword in the Stone Part 2, like previous season sets up a step stone towards the legend. In season 3 finale we saw the gathering of the knights of the round table. This season we see Arthur and Gwen get married, in addition to Merlin becoming a close confident to Arthur.

So following the events of the previous episode, they all run into the caves closely tailed by Agravaine. Doing what Merlin does best, he makes up a lie to Arthur and takes care of the problem by calling the dragon. You have to wonder, what will Arthur think when he finally sees the dragon? Arthur thinks he killed the dragon back in season 2 finale. But thats for another day and episode. So the dragon gets rid of most of the army, but a few plus Agravaine survive. Merlin confronts them all to buy Arthur time, but Agravaine manages to survive the blast and figures out that Merlin is Emerys. But that doesn't last long as Merlin takes care of it.

Now safe, they make camp and Arthur by this point is now wallowing in self pity and takes a bit out on Gwen. Where did the love go?! So Merlin needs to figure out how to make Arthur believe in himself again and take back Camelot. Merlin soon comes up with a plan to use the sword that he planted in the stone and a legend to make Arthur believe. With his citizens hidden in the forest, Arthur pulls the sword out of the stone, and believes in his destiny.

Let the battle for Camelot begin. Arthur manages to get in Camelot again and heads towards Morgana. In the throne room, Morgana greets them all, and attempts to use her magic but finds it blocked (good job old ninja Merlin). Morgana once again reminds us all that she is also a good swords woman as she escapes. This fact was pointed out in Season 1 when she used, well you know, to care about her friends.

With Morgana gone (escaped if you must be picky about it), Arthur reclaims Camelot, and during this he can't live without Gwen. So Arthur proposes to Gwen again, and they get married. Morgana's dream and fear has come true at last. They say your can't change your fate, and this has been proven many times on Merlin. Think of the episode when Merlin tried to stop Morgana from going to Uther's room with a knife? It still happened, and Merlin in a way, made it worse.

Sword in the Stone Part 1 & 2 were great to watch. It felt like this season that Merlin brought its "A" game and brought more stronger episodes than previous seasons. Although this episode we did see the small return of old season 1 Morgana as she became worried about Emerys. For you romantics out there, you got your Gwen and Arthur moments and the all too familiar kiss in the sun.

Would like to mention that Percival got a bigger role than he did in last season's finale he had just appeared. I have to say that Percival is one my favorite knights along side Sir Leon, mostly because he likes to run around with his arms bear. Its like, "you can't hit me, I'm too manly to get hurt on my arms". Theres other things, but thats another blog post entirely. But this is the last Merlin episode review until next season (or until it airs in North America). Tune in next Monday for the top 5 episodes of Season 4 of Merlin.

Video above summarizes the season final of Merlin. Also its kinda awesome.
