Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Finale: We All Didn't See It Coming

My god Sleepy Hollow that has to be one of the best well done season finales I have seen in awhile. Not only that, but you managed to actually get the jump on me and surprise me with something I never thought would happen. I love it when shows do that, don't you? From the moment the season finale began, we knew we were in for a good, creepy, and fun time as our gang. The Indispensable Man dealt with our team searching for Washington's secret map to Purgatory in order to stop Moloch's minions from getting it as well as finding a way to bring Katrina back to the world of the living. Bad Blood followed up with Ichabod and Abbie heading out to get Katrina to stop the second horseman from coming. It is great when tv shows like Sleepy Hollow are smart and think things through as one big plan instead of doing whatever. It also proves how strong 13 episode series can be. Sure it's less episodes and more waiting time between seasons (it's not as bad as Sherlock), but it gives the writers time to write quality episode where we can see more of Ichabod verses modern day and bonding with Abbie. It's the little things that count.

In it's own way, Sleepy Hollow kicked off it's two hour finale with a little nudge in The Indispensable Man as after Abbie listened to Ichabod's cute little voice message on his inbox, she is visited by Andy, her undead fanboy. I think we all can agree that the whole Andy has a crush on Abbie thing is just out of place and weird. I get Sleepy Hollow is trying to explain his deep connection with Abbie, but couldn't it be like deep friendship or something? Anyways he tries to get her to give him the map and blabs out that prophesy on how Ichabod will deliver Abbie's soul to Moloch. Abbie rejects him, and continues to worry about the prophesy the whole time. Where is the trust Abbie? Then again, when it comes to Katrina, Ichabod doesn't see straight which we see later on in the finale. When our duo meet up, Ichabod has informed Abbie he has figured out what the date in Washington's Bible meant and that Washington had made a map to Purgatory. A person who helped Washington achieve this was the priest we saw back in the Pilot who got his head cut off by the headless horseman. I love how Sleepy Hollow links back like that and it makes sense. This brings back everyone's favorite sin eater, Henry Parish.

On the side of everything, Irving is dealing with the aftermath of his daughter's possession as officers come to investigate why two people were murdered at the safe house Irving placed his family in. As for Andy, hurt by Abbie's rejection, he allows Moloch to turn him into ET. No I mean his minion. That is one strange transformation. I feel like Sleepy Hollow is not using John Cho properly, he was fine back in the Pilot, but now it's getting really old. Back with our favorite duo, plus Henry Parish, as they break into a priest's grave and Parish discovers the location of the map. They are however followed by Moloch's minions. Bad Blood brings a vision of the rise of the horseman of War, and the only one who can stop it is Katrina. So Ichabod and Abbie work to get into Purgatory to bring Katrina back. Abbie asks Jenny to look into Corbin's files on the priest for more information. In Purgatory, Ichabod and Abbie must remember their bonds to survive.

The Indispensable Man and Bad Blood were excellent examples of everything Sleepy Hollow is capable of pulling off. At first Sleepy Hollow seemed like this bat shit crazy show that wasn't going to succeed to most people and was the next Zero Hour. Which is a bit insulting cause that show looked stupid. Sleepy Hollow is good at pulling off the creepy, making you laugh, cry, and enjoy the bond between our two heroes as while as bringing you a mystery to unravel. Purgatory was absolutely fantastic as it really sold the creepy vibe. I also love how Ichabod has grown used to his new surroundings as he demands a new phone and uses catch phrases  like "how cool". Not to mention the little pokes back at previous jokes like Yolanda (perhaps the best scene in Sleepy Hollow) and fist bump. Then there was Ichabod discovering emoticons, and re-enactments of the war. But then there were moments that made you feel as you watched the Mills sisters bond and Irving as he protected his daughter. Then there was that ending no one saw coming. Good work Sleepy Hollow. My one complaint is that The Indispensable Man seemed a bit slow. Oh and Andy. Or should we call him ET!Andy?

I personally can't wait for season 2 of Sleepy Hollow to come and how they are going to deal with the crap that was dealt to them in the season 1 finale. Sleepy Hollow season 1 has been fantastic and a great hour of television every Monday night. We saw Abbie come to terms with being a Witness, and making up with her sister, Jenny. We saw Ichabod struggle with modern day. Irving joined Team Witness later on in the season. It was a good ride and we'll start it all over again next fall. You know at one point, I thought it was going to be one character who was lying, but I was wrong which doesn't bother me. See you Sleepyheads in the fall.

See you see that ending coming? If so how? What was your favorite moment of the finale?
