Supernatural "LARP and The Real Girl": Now That Was Fun

LARP and the Real Girl will be one of those episodes in Supernatural history that will never be forgotten. Not only did it bring back one of Supernatural remaining recurring female character, Charlie Bradbury, but for once ended happily. For Supernatural, that is something unheard of, but fans accepted it and loved it with all their hearts. Between the Winchesters LARPing and Sam's ponytail, the fandom went crazy (you should have seen tumblr) and LARP and the Real Girl officially became a fan favorite. Personally, I walked away from this episode laughing for 5 minutes straight and some awesome quotes ("Or she was high as balls" lol) and memories I'll never forget. By the way, for this review I am giving a minor spoiler warning, so read at your own risk.

So we start off with some moping Winchesters as they are still working on their issues with each other from previous episodes. Then Sam gets a call from Garth (who is tracking them by GPS), who tells them of a case nearby to look into. The Winchesters soon find a connection to the world of LARPing and the queen of it is familiar face, Charlie Bradbury. So they head to the land of Moondur (obviously a parody of Murdor), and into the world of LARPing where they are immediately outed as fake FBI agents. This is not the first time Sam and Dean were outed as fakes, the first time was back in The Monster At The End Of The Book. They soon find Charlie, who is not very happy to see them again, and quickly comes to the conclusion there is a monster in town. Charlie is about to run away, but decides to stay since she is queen. Thus the Winchesters begin their investigate of who the culprit who is using magic to murder people.

There are just so many things about LARP and the Real Girl that just worked and were so fantastic to watch. There was many pop culture references to behold this episode, as it went from Charlie saying, "call me................maybe?" Or Dean totally ripping off the Brave heart speech. LARP and the Real Girl was just pure fun in Supernatural form. As always, Dean got to dress up, and this time was as a knight, or should I say handmaiden? I think Dean just likes dressing up in general. Speaking of which, my favorite scene of the whole episode belonged to when both Sam and Dean dressed up and participated in a LARP battle. Now that was pure gold. Whoever came up with that idea for the episode deserves to get a statue made. Felicia Day also prove once again that she is more than welcome back into Supernatural fandom as she is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Which is unheard of in Supernatural fandom (ie. Ruby and Bella). The best quote of the night went to though, the awesome sheriff who said, "Kids today with their texting and murdering". Love how texting just got associated with murder.

There has been complaints on the internet about how Sam was moody during all of LARP and the Real Girl. I found that I really didn't notice it as much. Maybe it seemed more noticeable due to events or because Dean was just having too much fun that Sam got compared. If you think about it Sam has always been the more serious brother. The ending was a it bit predictable, but you have to admit, you didn't think the writers would go there. Although I half expected Charlie to go to fairy land with that fairy she met and made out. I guess the writers felt they couldn't get rid of her that easily. Speaking of fairies, it looks like Supernatural revamped them again since Clap Your Hands If You Believe.

LARP and the Real Girl was a fantastic episode and further proved that season 8 will not be like season 7. It's always fun when the Winchesters let themselves have fun for once. I wonder what happened during the filming of that episode? Anyways, hope Felicia Day returns again (yes she lives if your wondering) as it's always fun when she returns to Supernatural. Next week Supernatural returns back to the angst, and fans will have their hearts ruined again. On the bright side, we're going to learn more about the Winchester family history.

Did you laugh so hard it hurt? Wasn't the Sheriff the best? Would you like to see Charlie again?
