Beauty and the Beast "Seeing Red": The Truth Hurts

Welcome back Beauty and the Beast, as the show returns this week from it's winter hiatus. This week's episode, Seeing Red, focused more on the relationship of Catherine and Vincent with their latest obstacle; Vincent's former fiance. Yes, Beauty and the Beast as officially started on the mess that is called a love triangle (not counting Evan, cause he doesn't stand a chance). Seeing Red also managed to get a little crime plot in with a creepy follower following Alex. On a side note, did anyone notice that Jay Ryan's American accent got a little better? Could be just me.

Seeing Red picked up where the previous left off, with an injured Catherine in Vincent's arms. Unable to help her, Vincent was forced to leave her on the ground for Evan to find and help. Evan quickly whips out some roadside assistance and saves Catherine's life. Not to mention in this scene, Heather managed not to be annoying for once. Catherine soon finds herself in a hospital, a nurse (who is conveniently Vincent's former fiance) telling her what happened. Catherine soon gets a visit from Vincent, who actually wasn't the one who had saved her, but only had pulled her from the car. At least she was thinking of him right? Vincent fesses up that it wasn't him, but he had pulled Cat from the car. As Vincent is leaving, he is seen by his former fiance and quickly runs way. Alex, soon confides in Catherine about seeing Vincent, and Cat decides to warn Vincent off. Despite all reason, Vincent decides to reveal himself to Alex, who is just stunned to see him. Catherine soon uncovers that someone is after Alex, and they set out to solve the situation.

Despite throwing all that drama in, Beauty and the Beast continues to grow as a show as it tests what it can, and can't do. It was really adorable to see Catherine put so much faith in Vincent and believe that he had been the one who saved her. So cute, that I wish Vincent had been the one so it wouldn't hurt my feels when Vincent confessed he had only gotten her out of the car. I am also finding myself liking Evan a bit as his character feels like he is no longer in competition for Catherine. His character is quite interesting now that the love interest thing has been pushed to the side. Final point, the crime plot of Seeing Red, really worked this episode as it tied everything up nicely.

Being a drama, Beauty and the Beast decided to throw in some unnecessary things to make Seeing Red more "interesting". I have always been outspoken about how much I dislike love triangles, and I should expect them from watching Beauty and the Beast. So as long as characters aren't conflicted on who they want, I won't rant, but throwing in characters for conflict, it's a bit annoying. I swear it's like passing gas for Batb writers. Next on my list is Heather. She wasn't annoying as usual but she still was a bit of a useless character, as she continues to be very irresponsible. Heather basically left her injured sister to give something for her hangover. Finally, shame you Vincent for reconnecting with your ex, when you have something with Catherine. At least Vincent isn't head over heels with her.

I found Seeing Red to be an alright episode, just missing some important elements. I feel that Batb has seen better days, and Seeing Red just misses it. The upside, the crime element of Seeing Red fit perfectly. So next episode, the love triangle continues (ugh) as Vincent continues to hang with Alex, and Catherine needs to re-certify herself as an officer. Oh and JT has to work with Evan to discover this mysterious DNA. Sounds fun right?

What do you think of Alex? Did you like the Vincent/Catherine teamwork?
