Merlin "Another's Sorrow": Good Intentions

Morgana hits Camelot's allies to achieve her goals in Another's Sorrow, as she aligns herself with Odin. This week's episode of Merlin finds Arthur once again at odds with his old enemies Odin and Morgana. With Another's Sorrow, Merlin tied up some loose ends up that were left in previous seasons. I have always been a fan of continuity, and Merlin was kind to remember it. Merlin referenced events that happened back in Season 2 and 4 that involved Odin. Despite all the loose ends up, there was this moment in the episode I'm sure all fans were screaming at their televisions, "SPOILER use your SPOILER!" You know what I'm talking about.

So Another's Sorrows begun with Morgana and her new found ally (where does she find these people?), Odin in taking down one of Camelot's allies. Morgana soon traps Mithian (you may remember her from The Hunter's Heart) into a plan to lead Arthur to Odin. So Mithian, along with a disguised Morgana (come you knew it was her) head to Camelot to seek "aid". They receive aid, and Mithian tells her story, of her escape and leaving her father behind to Arthur. Arthur soon agrees to give her aid and decrees that him and a small amount of men will go. As they ready, Merlin gets a funny feeling about this, and Mithian's maid (trust your Merlin senses!) and tries to warn Arthur.  Arthur shrugs Merlin off as usual (think about it, Merlin is always warning Arthur), and states they will go on as planned. They head out to some tomb of some sort, unaware of the danger ahead.

Another's Sorrow once again gives Arthur room to grow as he, despite his personal feelings, moves towards making peace for his people. I guess in a way this shows Arthur as the king he was meant to be, and somewhat makes up what he did to Merlin. I love how this episode was played out with the no one knowing what was going on or that there was no sense of danger. Merlin was usually onto things like this, but he wasn't, and when he did, he was silenced. I also feel sorry for Mithian. She had no desire to hurt Arthur, but in order for her father to be safe, and the cuff around her wrist, she had no choice. Although it didn't stop her from trying to warn the others.

Now Another's Sorrow did feel a little a horse riding montage than a recuse mission as the director obviously had over indulged in riding shots. There were so many that you started to notice that there was a lot. My next big argument is the little showdown between Merlin and old Morgana (being old is all the rage). Morgana flings Merlin back and chokes him with magic, but Merlin decides at that very moment not to use magic. So your secret is worth more than his life. Either that or Morgana's magic is more powerful than Merlin's, but I doubt that. Then when Merlin was down, Arthur doesn't hesitate to leave Merlin behind. Seriously, you leave Merlin behind? After all he has done? At least he listens to Merlin after.

Another's Sorrows was really about Arthur's and Mithian's good intentions as they tried to deal with their situation. Arthur and his want for revenge on Odin, and Mithian in trying to reveal the traitor in their mists. Morgana is now out of an ally, but that is not going to stop her. So next week, 5 weird looking women curse Arthur, and Mordred is back.

Were you yelling at Merlin to use his magic? What plan will Morgana cook up now?
