Top 5 Episodes of Season 8 of Supernatural.....So Far

Castiel interrogates a cat in Hunteri Heroici
With the hiatus of Supernatural on right now, it's time to count down the top episodes of this season I thought were great. Unlike last year, it wasn't as easily as I had about 6 episodes so far that I thought were just amazing. So here are the top 5 episodes I thought were the most entertaining of the first half of the season. Remember they are in order of appearance.

1. We Need to Talk About Kevin

This was the premiere episode of season 8, and the beginning of new showrunner Jeremy Carver. It brought Supernatural back to form with the right combination of everything. We Need To Talk About Kevin also hosted the sweet, but bitter reunion of the Winchester brothers after a year. Then Dean finds out that Sam hadn't look for him at all, and this causes a rift between the brothers. Kevin Tran made his return as well, as he had escaped from Crowley and had been on the run since. Kevin soon drops that he found a way to close the gates of hell, forever.

2. What's Up Tiger Mommy?

Following the premiere, Kevin is now traveling with the Winchesters and demands to see his mother. Despite the neighborhood crawling with demons, like the demon Apocalypse itself, the Winchesters roll in and take out the demons watching Mrs. Tran. Special mention to Sam who recited the exorcism spell backwards to put the demon back in the vessel. Once recused, Mrs. Tran demands that the Winchesters take her along as well, even agreeing to get tattoos. Mother and son bonding moment. This episode, fans were also treated to some Castiel as he returned in the form of flashbacks. The best moment of the episode though went to Sam when he found Thor's hammer (Sam Thor!), and used it. The episode ended on a sad note as the Trans ditch the Winchesters thinking they are no longer needed.

3. A Little Slice of Kevin

The episode Castiel fans were waiting for as the absent Castiel makes his return from Purgatory. And honestly, the episode didn't disappoint. The episode did not waste time on the return of Castiel as within moments of opening, Castiel was seen wandering along the highway. Then he appears in front of the Winchesters and informs them that he remembers nothing from his Purgatory escape. Castiel soon cleans up and helps them in the recuse of Kevin Tran Crowley. Fans were once again treated to Castiel showing his wings again, as well as Crowley, well being Crowley. At the end, the episode reveals there is a bigger picture in play here as Castiel is being manipulated by Naomi (Amanda Tapping) and it is unknown who she is exactly.

4. Hunteri Heroici

Following A Little Slice of Kevin, Castiel is still with the Winchesters and declares he is going to be a hunter. He even declares himself the third wheel, and tries to get shotgun (Sam is like "Nope"). The episode is full of gags as Supernatural does what it does best and pokes fun at itself and have a good time. Even the laws of the cartoon world come to life. Like seeing birds flying around your head when you get hit in the face. This episodes brings us a bunch of rememberable moments, like Castiel interrogating a cat, Dean joking about braiding Sam's hair (Sam smiles), and the gag fight. Although the episode takes a heartbreaking turn when Castiel is told by Naomi that he can't return to heaven until she says so.

5. Citizen Fang

What made this episode make the list was the major turmoil the brothers had in their relationships. Each went behind each other's back and did something. It also made the character Benny more likeable and brought back an familiar face in crazy Martin. Sam reveals to Dean that there is a vam kill in a town that Benny has taken home to, but Dean doesn't believe that Benny did it. They get into town where they meet up with Martin, who lays out the evidence he found. Dean doesn't believe Benny did it, and Sam gives him time to investigate. Dean later comes with evidence that prove Benny didn't do it, and Martin doesn't believe him and gets the drop on Dean. Sam is not happy with Martin, but leaves Dean behind. The real punch of the episode came at the end when Martin takes Elizabeth hostage against Benny, and gets himself killed. In addition to Amelia texting Sam to help her, but in reality it was Dean using her to get Sam out of town.

It had been great that the first half of Supernatural has been so great so far. My runner up was Bitten, but due to the fact there was really no main character development, it lost it's place to Citizen Fang. I am looking forward to when Supernatural returns in January with new episodes as we finally see what Naomi did to Castiel and how he got out of Purgatory. I would also like to see more of Kevin Tran as well. A friend of mentioned that he would like to see what Garth's safe house boat was. So without further ado, I'll be going on hiatus myself for the season on Supernatural. See you next year and Merry Christmas!
