Sinbad: It's All About The Journey

There has been many Sinbads in the history of television and film. There has been the animated movie, tv shows, and a show about a guy named Sinbad. Sky1 brings us a new adaption of Sinbad which tells the story of Sinbad and his crew as they explore the world and fend off against magic. Sinbad is about a young man named Sinbad (Elliot Knight), who accidentally kills son of the powerful Lord Akbari in a fight. Sinbad is soon forced to witness the death of his beloved brother and is cursed by his grandmother. Sinbad soon finds himself out on the sea, and fighting for his survival. In general, Sinbad is an adventure story as Sinbad and his friends go to different lands and face the dangers each bring. Sinbad currently has one season, and its unknown at the moment whether it will be renewed.

As I mentioned above, Sinbad is about a young man named Sinbad, who one day incurs the anger of Lord Akbari after unknowingly killing Lord Akbar's son in a  fist fight. Soon, Sinbad becomes a fugitive and is on the run with his brother, but not for long. Sinbad is captured and forced to his brother get killed for his actions. Sinbad manages to escape back home, but his angry, grieving Grandmother curses him to be on land on longer than a day or die. This forces Sinbad to escape on a ship and leave the only home he has known. Unknown to Sinbad, he is still hunted by Lord Akbari and his mistress of magic, Taryn. Joining Sinbad on his journey is Anwar (Dimitri Leonidas), Rina (Marama Corlett), Gunnar (Elliot Cowan), Nala (Estella Daniels), and Cook (Junix Inocian). Sinbad soon finds himself in the adventure of his life.

Sinbad is a recently new show, so it has much room to grow and develop itself as it goes. It can even develop the elements it already has going for it. There is the obvious fantasy element to it as Sinbad is hunted and attacked by some creatures of the supernatural. In addition to the adventure of Sinbad and his friends discovering new lands and people. Through these adventures Sinbad and his friends begins to understand each other and forge bonds that create trust between each other. About halfway through the season of Sinbad, it starts to get even more interesting when the question of what Sinbad's destiny is and who is he? They even bring in a new character of Tiger to add more dynamic to the team.

Despite all the mystery and adventure, Sinbad has much to learn. At the beginning of Sinbad, I can say it wasn't my most favorite show and didn't go out of my way to watch it. It still isn't the strongest of shows, but it does look promising. I think as Sinbad went on, it learned from its mistakes and began correcting them as the season aired. I gave Sinbad a shot though since it didn't look too bad and wasn't a complete mess. Like some of the characters were created simply to be there and be a plot point. They weren't thought out and seemed two sided. Or it was the opposite and a great character was created and it wasn't used properly. Then there were some stories that just made no sense. But like all new shows, it needs to have some misses to get some hits.

Sinbad has the right stuff to be a successful show. Not sure though it will be the same standards as the BBC show Merlin though. I do like it though, when tv shows surprise me. Sinbad is a good adventure as Sinbad discovers the world and himself. You can get the general idea from the season 1 promo below of Sinbad.
