Now this was the Doctor Who I was looking forward to watch. Dinosaurs On A Spaceship follows in Moffat's plan of making each episode feel like a movie with an arc connecting them all. This arc being the Ponds and their fate. So get ready for typical Doctor goofiness.
10 months have past since the Ponds last saw the Doctor, and the Doctor is still up to his old tricks. While visiting Queen Nefertiti, the Doctor gets word about a ship heading towards earth and decides to go investigate it. So the Doctor decides to gather old friends to search the ship with. The Ponds are back together again, and soon suddenly find themselves on the tardis (plus Rory's dad). With his gang, the Doctor soon finds that there are dinosaurs on this spaceship, and something else about the ship.
I have to say that Dinosaurs On A Spaceship was a great episode. It once again reminded me why I watched Doctor Who in the first place. Unlike the previous episode, Dinosaurs On A Spaceship was a more lighter episode as it pulled out gags and laughs. Two scenes in general I would like to point out. First is the scene where the Doctor tells the Rorys (thats what I'm calling Rory and his dad) to dig and Rory's dad pulls out a shovel. The Dad proceeds to tell Rory to put it on his Christmas list and Rory says, "Dad, I'm 31, I don't have a Christmas list anymore." The best part was when the Doctor throws his arms in the air and says, "I DO!" That scene had me laughing knowing how old the Doctor is and him being still carefree. The second scene is where the dinosaur is sniffing Rory's dad and the Doctor asks "You don't have any vegetable matter in your pants, do you?" Rory's dad responds,"Just my balls." Then a moment of silence follows as everyone shocked, but it is soon turned to laughter as he pulls out golf balls. I have a feeling that scene is going to be remembered for a bit in Doctor Who history.
Besides the humorous parts, Doctor Who went on a emotional journey as well this episode. We are starting to see the Ponds slowly beginning to move away from the Doctor. We can see this with Amy mentioning that she is getting tired of waiting for the Doctor in addition to her asking the Doctor to take them home. You can see on the Doctor's face that he is slightly hurt, but he knows its true. We also see the Doctor get angry at the Soloman character for his general lack of care for life. Its the similar anger we saw in When A Good Man Goes To War. In general, this week's episode had a great story and will become one of the strong episodes of season 7 so far.
As much as I loved Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, there are somethings that I'm still ify on. I felt that the beginning of the episode was a bit rushed as the Doctor got the message about the ship. I don't know how else it could have been done though. I also wonder how this organization knew to call the Doctor (doesn't the universe think he is dead?). There is really nothing about this episode I didn't like.
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship is a definite step up from the previous episode as we see the Doctor's fun and games. It also gave us some memorable scenes in Doctor Who series. Dinosaurs On A Spaceship though does make you think some questions that the Doctor Who universe will, or will not answer in time. Next week, A Town Called Mercy airs as Doctor Who goes to the wild west. Promo below.
Did you like this week's episode of Doctor Who? Would you like to be in the Doctor's gang?
