Teen Wolf Is The Right Kind Of Werewolf

Teen Wolf  Season 2 Cast.
Thanks to movies like Twilight, the supernatural genre involving vampires and werewolves are constantly compared to these example and frowned on. Well those who don't care for movies like Twilight anyways. Teen Wolf is the prefect example of what a good supernatural interpretation should look like. Teen Wolf does not sugar coat and glamorize werewolves, but in fact creates its own mythology within the boundaries that television set for it. Teen Wolf has the correct formula for success as it offers horror, action, humor and romance, bundled up in each episode. Teen Wolf currently has two seasons with a third season airing this fall.

As the title implys, Teen Wolf will be set  in high school called  Beacon Hills High following the main character Scott McCall. One night while in the forest, Scott is bitten unknowingly by a werewolf. Scott begins to notice changes like enhanced strength, hearing, speed, smell and reflexes. Scott and his best friend Stiles eventually figure out that Scott is a werewolf, and set out to learn and control Scott's abilities better. There is something else out in the night, other than werewolves as werewolf hunters appear in town. The Argent family are a long line of werewolf hunters and Scott falls in love in their daughter Allison. So Scott is forced to learn about his new found abilities and keep it a secret at the same time.

When I first hear of Teen Wolf, I did not even want to watch it since I thought it was going to be yet another teen drama about how they fall in love and screw up their lives. Once I did watch, Teen Wolf proved it was much more than that as it was able to beautifully combine the supernatural and basic high school life realistically. The characters are able to support the story and are all necessary in one way or another. Like for instance, the Stiles character is used for comic relief and Scott's support. Teen Wolf is also able to throw twists and turns that make you stand on edge as it goes on. I read somewhere that Teen Wolf is shaping to a tale of a hero's journey and the struggles the hero (Scott in this case) must deal with. You watch Scott deal with being a werewolf and learning to deal with it so he can live a normal life. To sum it up, I really like where Teen Wolf is heading and it by far is becoming a great show.

There isn't much to not like about Teen Wolf. Some of the characters are the same generic characters we see in other shows. There is always the hero with the bleeding heart with a sidekick who likes to make jokes. There is the jock who is dating the most popular girl in school. I could go on, but I think I have made my point. I do have to admit some of the werewolf things are a bit silly, but its better than them turning into a wolf or a gigantic CGI werewolf.

In simple terms, Teen Wolf is a great show and a real treat to watch. Teen Wolf does not sugar coat anything as the hero can actually fail his classes and does not magically turn into a wolf. There is nothing more about Teen Wolf I can say without rambling on about random points that pop into my head. What I will say is that Teen Wolf is a good example of excellent storytelling with supernatural, horror and comedic elements. Season 1 Trailer below.

By the way, you should check out Tv.com photo recaps of Teen Wolf. They are very funny and is what made me want to watch Teen Wolf in the first place.
