Rock of Ages brings the musical experience

Rock of Ages Promotional poster.
From stage musical to the big screen, Rock of Ages has widen it's audience with the release of the film. Rock of Ages offers the prospect of a good time and your favorite old tunes from the 80's. Although, despite Rock of Ages not so good reviews, audiences must realize the fact that the real purpose behind the show is to bring you songs that make you want to sing along with it.

The basic story of Rock of Ages is centered around two people; small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet while trying to achieve their dreams. They both work at the Bourbon, a place where Rock n' Roll lives. From there the story branches out and introduces us to the other characters of the movie. There is Lonnie and Dennis who also work at the Bourbon, and have a "relationship" together. In addition to Stacee Jaxx, who is the Rock n' Roll icon of the generation. Stace's manager is Paul Gill, who controls and shapes Stacee's career. Summing it up there is the anti-Stacee Patricia Whitmore, the writer Constance and Sherrie's helping hand Justice. The whole story arc is about the survival of Rock n' Roll as well as the romance of two young dreamers.

Rock of Ages is benefits from many of its good qualities. For one, all the actors can sing which is excellent, not to mention the fact that their acting is not effected by this. Who would have thought Tom Cruise could actually sing? I found in this movie that the best moments in Rock of Ages were held by Russell Brand and the monkey called Heyman. Whenever either was on screen, you found yourself laughing. Finally, the tunes belted out in the movie were just so darn catchy, and after the movie you'll find yourself singing the songs.

Rock of Ages wasn't the strongest though, and lacked the flare that needed to draw in audiences. Early reviews were quick to point out that the story wasn't the strongest. I would like to point out that not all musicals don't have great stories to begin with. They have a enough story to make it work though and Rock of Ages story was barely pushing it along. Sherrie and Drew fell in love within moments of meeting each other. Not to mention Sherrie's reason for coming to L.A is a bit rocky. I would like to also point out that when Sherrie is looking for a job she is so worried about being sexually harassed, but ends up working in a strip club.

Overall, Rock of Ages is a good movie. It is directed to those who love the old time Rock n' Roll songs and want to enjoy them. I would not recommend seeing this movie if you don't like: lots of drinking, songs of the 80's, sexual content, suggestive content, and some bro-mance. If you can stand all that, and looking forward to Rock of Ages, go for it. Isn't rock and roll sex, drugs and booze anyways? Although the movie isn't the greatest, I find that viewing it in a cinema is the best experience for the movie. Our rating is:

Wait.

It's worth waiting for it to come on Dvd.
