Astro Boy, and the history behind it.

Picture of the new Astro Boy movie coming out soon to theaters.

Coming out on October 23, 2009, the remake of the popular anime Astro Boy hits theaters. Is Astro Biy even an anime or are you just making this up? No, Astro Boy was originally an anime created in Japan that manged to reach North American audiences.

Well the movie itself is set in the future in Metro City and the character is Astro Boy, a young robot created by Dr. Tenma. Astro can do many amazing things such as x-ray vision and super strength. Obviously not liked very much, Astro Boy sets out to find acceptance somewhere and meets interesting people along the way. Also during his travels he learns the joy and awesomeness of being a human being in which helps him embraces his destiny. When his family and close friends are in danger, Astro Boy goes and saves the day and understands what it means to be a hero.

It was first broad casted in Japan in 1963, it was originally called the Mighty Atom. It was later remade in 1980 and renamed Astro Boy. It was actually this anime that brought the idea of anime to North America and sparks the time bomb that would later become anime fandom. There was about 193 episodes but only 104 were dubbed into English.

So it was Astro Boy that started it all in North America. If it were not for Astro Boy, we probably wouldn't have heard that much about anime today. Or maybe none at all. The anime industry is still growing and gaining more territory. So now that its being remade, would anime gain more popularity? Or is it more like a sign for us to remember the start of anime and what cartoons were like back then. I am probably not going to see the movie, but maybe I'll rent it when I'm bored.
