Anime Turned to Live Action Movie

On the left is the anime version of Blood: The Last Vampire and on the right is the live action one.

Awhile ago I was sitting in a movie theater and I saw a trailer that look very similar to an anime I have watched before. Blood: The Last Vampire is a remake of an anime tv show in Japan and it has been dubbed already in North America in its alternate title Blood+. Now the live action movie is going to hit Blockbuster's shelves. This has gotta be one of the first live action movies to hit the North American theaters.

So in the anime version the story is that the main character Saya, is living a normal life until she is attacked at her school and saved by a man named Haji. Then her father is kidnapped and later killed. Now she and her two brothers set out on a journey to stop her twin sister Diva. Of course it has its own twists and turns at every corner. Saya learns about her forgotten past and her true nature. In addition the chaos, or the war that is happening all around her. This anime is one of those animes to be on the lookout for, because it is such a good story and the way it ends makes you want more.

In an alternate story, a sequel to the previous anime, Blood+, Blood: The Last Vampire was released in Japanese theaters in November 18, 2000. When it was released in North America on Dvd, it had a unique feature, it was both in Japanese (with Subs) and English to give you an idea of the location. Which is pretty neat in itself. It has a slightly different storyline than the original and the characters look a bit different as well. It takes place in post- WW2 Japan, a few months before the beginning of Vietnam War. Saya enters a school in order to find the chiropteran responsible for the murders.

Now the live action movie is slightly similar to the anime, in the smallest of details. The main character's name is Saya and is wearing a similar outfit to the anime one. That and she is not human. The setting is changed to shorty after WW2 in a American military base in Tokyo, Japan. Using her skills she locates the Onijen to destroy them. On the way she makes friends with the general's daughter. A neat feature of this movie was that apparently (according to wikipedia) it was recording originally in English and not Japanese.

The dvd is supposed to come out soon within the month or something like that. Also this is not the first anime live action movie ever made. There is plenty out there, but what makes this unique is the fact that it got into North American theaters. So when it comes out, I'll watch it just for the heck of it and see how similar it is to the anime version. How exciting!
