"The Amazing Spider Man 2" Is Very Much Peter Parker's Journey

Ever since Andrew Garfield debuted on screen as Peter Parker, I instantly loved his version verses it's previous incarnation. It was this charisma that he brings to the screen and to Peter Parker himself that made me love this version. With The Amazing Spider Man 2, we get to see how much has changed since then and how he will change during the two hours and a half running time the movie has. I didn't find this much of an issue though as I watched plot points unravel and characters live during the time the movie was on. Although I did find that at some points wondering when the ending was nearing. Like "is this how they plan on ending it?" More importantly, The Amazing Spider Man 2 served mid point for this 3 movie arc (possibly 4?) that Marc Webb has planned out for Sony. Which could explain for some plot points in the movie. As for all the villains in the movie, I can safely say the Rhino isn't as big as a threat that the trailers make him out to be. If you had to choose a big bad for the film, it would definitely be Electro.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 starts off with diving into the Parkers' history a bit as it hinted at why the Parkers left Peter with his Aunt and Uncle. In addition to explaining how the plane crash that killed Peter's parents transpired. In present day, Peter running late for graduation as he helps stop some last minute crime on the streets. He manages to arrive just in time though to receive his diploma. Later on Peter heads to dinner with Gwen's family, but don't go in due to guilt over Gwen's father's death and the promise Peter made to him. Feeling guilty, Peter breaks up with Gwen and devotes himself to his work as Spider Man. Meanwhile Harry Osborn returns to the city and takes control of Oscrop after his father's death. Elsewhere, Max Dillion, a man previously saved by Spider Man and became slightly obsessed with him, falls into a tank of electric eels causing him later to be able to command electricity. Unknown of his new powers, Max causes havoc and Spider Man is forced to battle him, thus turning his super fan into a villain.

Despite its long nature, I did enjoy The Amazing Spider Man 2 as it was a decent movie. As really did follow Peter in his journey of being a hero and all that comes with it. He struggles with guilt of breaking his promise to Gwen's father about staying away, but he clearly loves Gwen too much. This can be credited to Garfield and Stone's fantastic chemistry together. You smile when they smile and you feel sad when they are sad. That is what made the film a little more easier to watch. Let's not forget to mention both of the comedic timing these two have that had a couple of laughs along the way. Like when Peter lied to Aunt May he was washing the American flag the time he turned everything red and blue. On the villain side, I really have to say that Electro really stood out of the three. He was just a guy who wanted to be noticed and didn't have too much human contact. He obviously wasn't the most right in the head guy either. Then theres the fact that about half the movie was battling him anyways right? I like the twist they put on the Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider Man 2 with how his passion driven by the fact he was dying from an incurable, unknown, disease. That was pretty much it though. Overall I very much enjoyed the story, action, and amazing cgi in The Amazing Spider Man 2.

Now it's obvious that The Amazing Spider Man 2 didn't really up to the first film. The first in it's trilogy is what I mean. Action and CGI wise it was fantastic, but in matters of how the story moved, it lacked and was a bit jumpy. I mean it wasn't a total mess. It just didn't flow as good as the first film did. This could be due to the fact that the plot is cluttered with three villains for spidey to face off against. As I mentioned above, Rhino only had like maybe 10 minutes of screen time tops. Harry Osborn was just ordering people around for the majority of the movie and then was Green Goblin for like maybe 20 minutes. Electro pretty much carried the movie as it's primary villain. In fact, The Amazing Spider Man 2 could have just stuck with Electro and been fine. Then there is Peter Parker and this evolving version of his character since the first movie. I like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, but the character is not the same nerd he was before. We didn't see him do some smart things other than his experiment montage. This argument however can be deemed invalid since characters are meant to change over time.

Ever since the first film, I have been waiting for The Amazing Spider Man 2 and I wasn't disappointed. Although I can say that I don't feel an urge to watch it again in theatres but maybe on dvd. However the next film in the series don't be bogged down by villains and explore the Spider Man universe the best it can. We will see the effects of events that transpired in The Amazing Spider Man 2. Comic book fans, you won't be disappointed in some ways by the film. What a way to kick off the summer movie season right? Our rating for The Amazing Spider Man 2 is:

The trailer for The Amazing Spider Man 2.
What did you think of The Amazing Spider Man 2? Do you think they should have stuck with one villain?
