Beauty and the Beast "Anniversary": Code Yellow

Hey Batb fans, its time to visit Catherine's mom plot again this week with Anniversary. No fear though, it is not going to be a repeat of what happen during the first half of the season. In this week's episode, it's Catherine's mother's celestial birthday and as well as the anniversary of when Catherine and Vincent first meet (when he saved her all those years ago). I am glad that Batb learned earlier on from their mistakes to get to this level of blending the drama in a way that doesn't seem forced. Batb is able to make use of their characters in a manner to suits them best and push the story along. This week's push was Gabe as he has now realized Catherine's mother was the doctor who took care of him when he was a child. This brings in the obvious jealousy plot as he shares something with Catherine that Vincent didn't really. Not to mention Gabe can be seen in public with Catherine and not Vincent. No love triangle please Batb.

Anniversary begins off with Vincent watching Catherine sleep and wake up, not wanting her to be alone on this day. The day of Catherine's celestial birthday (and death????). Catherine remind Vincent that the day is also the anniversary of the first time they met and wants to celebrate that with him rather than the celestial birthday. Catherine has some mommy issues now with the whole" she worked for Murfield and never told me thing". They flirt a bit (they are too cute for words) and Vincent pulls himself away saying Catherine should see her mother. So they go to Cat's mom's grave only to discover Gabe there, and Vincent is forced to hide while Catherine confronts Gabe. Gabe reveals Cat's mom was his doctor and they begin sharing stories about her. She eventually invites Gabe to her family thing and poor Vincent who is hiding, begins feeling jealous (Code Yellow everyone!), damages a tree and runs off. On guard duty, Catherine begins worrying about Vincent, and then the mayor gets shot and Catherine does her job while Vincent goes after the shooter. Vincent soon finds evidence that points to Gabe being involved in the shooting.

So it was nice to see Batb throw something  into the mix that isn't' a love triangle and yet keeps Batb fresh. Anniversary digs further into the mystery that is Gabe and create this connection between him and Catherine that unsettles Vincent. Gabe isn't trying to worm his way into her heart (or at least as far I know) and Vincent is not okay with anyone getting too close with Catherine. It is cute to see Vincent jealous of the connection Gabe has with Cat, and is willing to protect her from Gabe as well. Especially when he begins to think Gabe has something to do with the Mayor's shooting. Gabe can't stop the cuteness of Vincent and Catherine together, especially that opening scene. God how I ship them. I am glad that Tess decided to join Team VinCat as she is doing her part in helping them. I was waiting for the day for Catherine to have an ally in police and Tess finally graduated from annoying status to useful status.

So Anniversary still has things that I find was a bit pointless. Early on in Batb Catherine used to talking about her mother all the time until it got annoying, and bringing it back now feels mildly irritating. The whole idea of Cat's mom still being alive was a bit silly. Not to mention the little hints Evan and Vincent were dropping about it a few episodes earlier. The actual truth was a bit lame though. Now we need to talk about Vincent's little problem about watching Cat sleep. Sure its cute he wants to be there, but its bit weird to just watch her sleep from her window. Sorry thats just logic to me. Finally, I still dislike the Tess/Joe relationship. There is no way they're going to stay together, or that is going to end nicely.

Good episode though with Anniversary with a nice little ending there. Nice little twist there right? I knew Gabe was going to be interesting. Best line of the night goes to Vincent with, "I kinda lost control when I heard his voice" when he was telling Catherine why the phone was destroyed. Bless that cute couple. Only a couple episodes left to the season everyone, so let's hope it doesn't end up our favorite couple breaking up. If so, I'm done with Batb.

Did you think Gabe was behind it all? How do you think the Joe/Tess relationship will turn out?
