How do I start this off without sounding like a total fangirl? Then again it's Iron Man 3, how could I not fangirl over it? The first movie in the Marvel franchise to pick up where The Avengers left off, we see Tony Stark facing issues after the big battle and locking himself in his lab where he is constantly working on his machines. Iron Man 3 also happened to take place around Christmas time for some reason. Iron Man 3 was also the first movie not to be helmed by Jon Favreau, but instead Shane Black. With this, Iron Man 3 had a different feel to it even though it was still Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. was once again awesome as Tony Stark as he dealt with his relationship with Pepper and the anxiety attacks.
The opening sequence of Iron Man 3 was definitely attention catching as it began with Tony Stark narrating a scene of exploding suits with "Blue" by Eiffel 65 playing in the background. That song is catchy and remember able, so my attention was caught. The scene moves on to the past where Tony is at a convention of sorts an is taking to Maya Hensen (Rebecca Hall) about her work and up to her room in typical Tony fashion. As they head to her room when Aldrich Killian (Guy Pierce) stop them, asking Tony to look at his room, and Tony lies saying he'll meet Aldrich on the roof. Present day Tony is tinkering with his suits, working a new version that will fly on. Elsewhere Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) is still CEO of Stark Industries with Happy Hogan (Jon Faveru) as chief of security when Aldrich walks in for a meeting. This is when Happy noticed something shifty about Aldrich's bodyguard, and later follows him. Later Pepper visits Tony for their date, and when Pepper is about to leave, Tony reveals he has been having problems sleeping. When Happy gets hurt during one of The Mandarin's attacks, this motivates Tony into taking action against the Mandarin. The Mandarin however attacks first and Tony soon finds himself with a busted suit and on his own.
Iron Man 3 was a great movie and good way to end the Iron Man trilogy. Just think about it, all those years ago, if it wasn't for the success of Iron Man, we wouldn't have had the Avengers (or I like to think so). The talent of Robert Downey Jr. made it possible and he really is Tony Stark when he walks on screen. I like how Tony was affected by the events of The Avengers and didn't walk away like nothing happened. He had come back from something so huge to everyday life and wasn't coping very well. He was still his smart ass self though. There was also plenty of action in this installment of Iron Man as Tony fought inside and outside his suit. The multiple suits thing was just fantastic. Makes you wonder if Tony based some off of his Avenger teammates? Plenty of twists throughout Iron Man 3 that keep it fresh and interesting. I can guarantee you that you won't see one coming. I would like to also bring up the scene with Tony Stark and the kid who helped him. It was fun seeing them play off each other and the connection they shared. Pepper and Tony are adorable together. Even when they are protecting each other.
Now I have to say, Iron Man 3 was not the best out of them all. As I have mentioned before, it was Iron Man with a different tune. This is probably due to the change in the directors and a bunch of other things I don't care to look up. Iron Man 3 was better than Iron Man 2, but not as great as the first Iron Man was. I was disappointed in the music choices as well too. What is Iron Man without AC/DC and Black Sabbath? I mean the Avengers managed to have some AC/DC, so why not Iron Man 3? I dislike the ending as well. I felt it was a bit pointless in certain areas, but I can see how Avengers 2 can play with it.
Good to see Tony back though with Iron Man 3 as it kicks off the summer movie season. Did you guys all notice the Stan Lee cameo? Yes he makes a cameo in Iron Man 3, so keep your eyes open. Also there is a scene at the end of Iron Man 3, so stick around after the credits. Although it more for humor than anything else. Reminding you all of how awesome the opening sequence was once again. I guess that's it for Iron Man now, other than Avengers 2, and it has been a good run. It's been fun and you'll always be my favorite super hero. Before I go and re-watch Iron Man, our rating for Iron Man 3 is:
