Arrow "The Undertaking": Full Circle

It is time to explain how everything came to be this week on Arrow with The Undertaking. It explained why the Undertaking came to be and what exactly it is. Not to mention the events that lead up to the sinking of the Queen's Gambit. Other than the island flashback, a good bunch of questions got answered tonight. Not to mention poor Oliver got dragged through an emotional ringer in both the past and future. Got to wag my finger at Arrow through for their little issue on continuity. I think we all can tell that Stephen Amell (he plays Oliver for those uninformed lot) has shaved and it takes time for the facial hair to grow back. I'll get into this later below. For you Oliver/Laurel fans, there was some development on that front. Overall The Undertaking filled in the blanks and really painted an image of what the characters are.

So The Undertaking began with Oliver taking down another name on the list, an sleazy accountant. Although the accountant does survive (after proclaiming he's not afraid of the Hood), and Oliver makes off with his laptop. Oliver brings it to Felicity to track down the man's clients and to return the money he stole. Above, Laurel is in Oliver's club wanting to talk to him about her break-up with Tommy and Oliver advises Laurel to talk with Tommy about their issues like Oliver should have done with her years ago. Then Felicity brings word of an interesting find that leads them to Walter's (we haven't forgotten you!) abductor. This leads to Felicity to infiltrate an underground club due to Oliver's high profile and public image. It's up to Felicity to plant a bug so they can hack the files in order to find Walter. Meanwhile in the past, The Undertaking takes us to old days before the boat sinking and the island. The days where Robert Queen was trying to help the glades while Malcolm suggested they destroy them entirely. We also see a young Oliver while he was with Laurel before he cheated on her with her sister.

The Undertaking finally explained a lot that was up in the air. I get that we the fans have a general idea of how things progressed, but Arrow took the time to show us the bigger picture. Like the undertaking is actually a plan to destroy the glades forever. If I ever had any doubt that Malcolm wasn't twisted in any way, they're gone. He is basically lashing out at the place his wife died. I think it is really his fault in a way since he choose not to answer the phone because she was annoying him. If you really cared, you would have answered the phone or have taken notice that she was calling a couple of times. Sorry really want to strangle Malcolm. I like Felicity little undercover scheme and how she was natural at it. She is not only good at computers, but she can gamble and go undercover. More importantly, aren't you glad Arrow didn't forget about Walter? I have no idea why I like him so much, and I'm glad that Arrow didn't kill him off screen. Don' you hate it when that happens? Oh have I mentioned how much of a badass Oliver was this week? Especially that scene in the hallway.

Now there were some inconsistencies with The Undertaking this week. Personally I am a big fan of continuity and when a show forgets something, I tend to notice. I think it is very obvious when Oliver's face has been shaved and you can tell what was filmed together, and what wasn't. It is also very strange to see him without the beard (very fond of it myself). This was not Arrow's fault but it was weird seeing thin hair in one scene and more hair in another when it was in present day setting. Off the topic of facial hair, I found it a bit silly that Oliver parachuted in. I guess he jumped off a nearby build and glided across without anyone seeing him (he is that much of a ninja). Not to mention for a so called impossible to walk in casino, Oliver seemed to walk in quite nicely.

I am glad The Undertaking answered some questions about Arrow this week. I think I might start shipping Oliver/Laurel soon cause they might be cute together (or badass). Walter is back now and I'm wondering how this is going to affect the rest of the season. I mean he knows Moira is keeping a secret and probably knew he was being used against her. The ending though of The Undertaking is a real game changer as now that most blanks have been filled in, Arrow can move on with other plot lines. As for the best line of the night, it's a tie between Oliver and Felicity. So I'm just going to post them all at the bottom for you guys to vote and discuss about.

  • Oliver: I'm be with you the entire time.
Felicity: Thanks. It feels really good having you inside me. And by "you," I mean your voice. And by "me," I mean my ear. I'm gonna stop talking right now.
Oliver: That would be my preference.
  • Oliver: Why? Because your father threatened to tase me the last time that I closed the door to your bedroom?
  • Laurel: Then will you please go talk to Tommy for me?
    Oliver: And say what?
Laurel: Say that you and I are over. That you're not still in love with me.
    Oliver: I can't do that.
    Laurel: Why not?
Oliver: Because it wouldn't be true. And I have enough lies in my life already.

Whats your favourite line of the night? Are you glad Walter is back?
