I'm not sure if I have said this yet or not, but I think Beauty and the Beast has the hang of it now as it is now fully able to balance the crime with the drama in it's own right. Playing With Fire joins the rest of the well done second half of the season. Just think, months ago, Batb was struggling with it's plot lines and now it's working well with it's material in a way that appeases the fanbase and the storyline. I guess that is why Batb got renewed for a second season (congrats by the way). We all want more VinCat and the team (JT and Tess). Playing With Fire did a great job of adding to the VinCat collection.
So Playing With Fire began with Vincent and Catherine looking for Vincent's new place since the old was, well, blown up. Catherine wants somewhere where Vincent can be safe, while Vincent wants a place that more romantic (awwwww) and can be proud to bring his girlfriend to. Elsewhere with Gabe, he is waking up with a nosebleed (not that kind) when he hears a knock at his door. He opens it to discover Joe there, asking to allow a task force to find Evan (who in the previous episode claimed responsibility to helping the vigilante). Gabe quickly shuts Joe down and admits to his blonde companion that it would bring the whole matter to public, which he did not want. At the station, Tess and Catherine are talking when a man with a gunshot wound stumbles in asking for Det. Chandler. He soon dies and later Catherine realizes that this man was apart of Murfield. This concerns Vincent and Catherine that Murfield knows about Catherine and Vincent decides to investigate the scene. While hes doing that, after find out that Gabe raided Evan's place, Catherine talks to him and Gabe reveals he knows about Murfield. Soon the existence of the orchid comes into play, as it is revealed this is Murfield's weakness.
You know ever since Vincent and Catherine got together Batb has gotten better, and this is not because I ship them (because I do). Playing With Fire this week was an excellent blend of drama, mystery, romance and action. Yes action, you didn't hear me wrong. I officially credit Playing With Fire for having the first combat scene with VinCat beating off Murfield to Fallout Boy. That scene was just awesome and painted our heroes as bad asses. Not only do are they are adorable but they can kick ass too. Now, we need to talk about Gabe. Since he appeared, we all have been asking "who is he and what's his connection to Vincent?" Playing With Fire finally decided to answer that question. Gabe has a connection to Murfield, which I won't tell, that compels him to do the things he does. The question is now, what does he plan to do when he finally gets his hands on Murfield. Does he really want revenge, or something beyond revenge? So there is still some mystery left to Gabe, not to mention who his female companion is. I also love how Batb has this gender partnership group thing going on. Team Vincent (Vincent and JT) investigates the murdered agent while discussing their next place. Team Catherine (Catherine and Tess) look into who raided Evan's apartment and working on breaking into places. Tess is no longer in my bad books anymore.
Now time to nit pick Playing With Fire. I don't have any problems with the episode itself, but there are a couple things that are making my brain itch. Tess showing Joe a piece of Evan's journals was one. I have this feeling in my bones that this is going to cause conflict later on. Also, how dare JT suggest to Vincent to go back to their old way and leave Catherine. For a second there, I thought the writers were going to do that, but luckily they also realized that was a terrible idea. I feel like Joe needs to let go of this as this whole "my brother was murdered" thing is getting a bit repetitive.
Anyways loving Batb right now and Playing With Fire was an excellent addition. I do love a combat montage with music. Someone needs to seriously gif that fight (tumblr go forth!). I am looking forward to seeing how twisted the Gabe is and his connection to Catherine's SPOILER. Also love Vincent's new pad, and where the hell did he find it? It's very low key is it? Did it just happen to be free? Just 3 episodes left to the season now and apparently the finale is supposed to be a cliffhanger. Sounds fun right?
What was your favorite VinCat moment? What's your theory on Gabe?
