Nikita: Sexy and Cool Like It's Titular Character

All you hear about it how Nikita was the show that Supernatural used to be paired with on Friday nights. In addition to one of the lowest viewed shows on the CW. What isn't said much is how great the story and writing of Nikita is, in addition to the action-packing scenes it bring to the mix. Nikita is not a spy show, but about an agent gone rouge with a mission to destroy the corrupt, secret government agency that created who shaped her into what she is today. Nikita is an action/drama that keeps the spy genre fresh and the characters interesting. Nikita currently has two seasons under its belt and a third one airing the fall of 2012 on October 19, 2012.

The story of Nikita follows the rouge agent Nikita who has resurfaced after 3 years since her escape from Division. The purpose of her appearance, to bring down Division, the agency who created who she is and killed her fiance. So using her skills, Nikita begins her personal mission to bring them down, but not without some help. Nikita has a mole in Division by the name of Alex, who poses as a recruit in the system. Alex leaks Nikita information on mission, and Nikita takes them out. Although going at it alone is dangerous as Nikita must face Division's head, Percy, Division's resident psychologist Amanda, and her former trainer, Michael.

Let is be said that Nikita is one of the CW's underrated television shows out there. Nikita has everything it needs to be a great show, and it is clearly one of the reasons why Nikita has survived so far. Nikita first benefits from such a strong cast, in addition to a strong lead actor of Maggie Q. Maggie knows her character very well, and brings the cool, seductive, bad ass side to her character. I also remember hearing somewhere that Maggie does her own stunts. Which makes the action more excellent in the series in addition these incredible action scenes. Now onto the storyline of Nikita, as it spells out revenge on Division. Eventually Nikita is about one person's goal to shut down a corrupt government agency, but as well about these character who find themselves in circumstances that are not normal and how they deal with it. In lame man terms, the fight for finding the human in the dark and forgotten souls.

Nikita with all the action and drama still has some flaws. Even with all its excellent character development, Nikita is still driven by one main plot point and it does get tiring once and a while. I found myself having to take breaks in between watching episodes. Also during some episodes, Nikita was forced to use some plot points that didn't fit in order to make the story work. Nikita is not meant for those who are not fans of action shows with violence. If you think about it, Nikita targets a small audience itself as it attracts fans of the action/spy genre.

Nikita was a real treat to watch and enjoy. There are very few shows that I actually ship, and Nikita has become one of those. So don't assume that Nikita is a terrible show due to its place on the Friday night time slot. It is in fact a hidden gem from the CW that delivers great action, and character development. Check out the season 1 promo below.
