Looking At Revolution "Pilot"

With September on the horizon, new shows like Revolution are coming very soon. Although Revolution has not aired yet, I was lucky enough to get into a pre-screening of the pilot episode of Revolution. I was able to watch the full episode of Pilot and get a taste of what is next to come. Although the people there seemed to focus on the fact that it was a J.J. Abrams show and didn't seem to know (or remember) that Eric Kripke helped create Revolution. The one person who seemed to remember this fact was surprise guest Billy Burke. Enough of that though, and lets get down to business.

The basic premise for Revolution is that one day all sources of power just shut down and society collapsed. Civilizations were forced to backtrack to farming and other means of surviving. The world of Revolution also saw the rise of republics and the militias that governed them. After this shut down, the show leaps 15 years into the future to a town where Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and her family live in a small village (which is a neighbourhood). Things take a turn for the worst when Charlie's dad gets killed and her brother taken by Captain Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito). Before her father dies, he tells her to look for his brother Miles Matheson (Billy Burke) in Chicago for help. Thus Charlie, accompanied by Aaron (Zak Orth), her father's friend and Maggie (Anna Lise Phillps), her father's lover.

The story of Revolution is quickly shaping up to be a story of conspiracy and romance. Pilot leaves many questions like, "Why did the power go out?" "What is the necklace and how does it run?" Those are just the main questions that Revolution poses. There is also the Militia that seem to be after the Matheson brothers for some reason. It was so important that they needed to be found that Neville needed to take Danny Matheson in order to appease the leader? In addition to that plot line, Revolution is setting up a forbidden romance storyline between Charlie and Nate. He is a apart of the Militia that is hunting Charlie's uncle, but there is the obvious chemistry there. Well saving her life twice was the hint there. I'm just hoping Revolution doesn't turn it into something cheesy and become one of those kind of shows. It needs to be a show that makes you think and glue your eyes to the screen.

Revolution is based in the idea of a world without power and has created it's own mythology in a way. A high point of the show would be to explore the world as we know it basically now run down and in ruins. You have to admit it would be cool to see some landmarks in this new universe. I am also banking on Kripke and his vision for the story. I am a big Supernatural fan and because of this I am giving Revolution a chance. This is what I have collected from watching the first episode keep in mind.

Now Revolution is not prefect, and has room to fix things here and there. The main character Charlie is a bit fluctuating as she first appears strong and independent but is soon is turned into, well a girl, with a crossbow. The character of Charlie needs to find a foothold and build from there. Revolution will need to invest in developing it's plot (which it has time to) in something that fits the legacy of Abarms and Kripke. As for the action, most of the action is in seen in the trailer and that happens in the beginning and end of the Pilot.

Overall, Revolution was interesting to watch and something I would like to see where it heads. Revolution is a sci-drama essentially tipped with Kripke humor here and there to make it interesting. Like when one of the characters mentioned Google and another was like, "What is Google?"All they need to do is figure out what they want to do with Charlie and then go from there. Also hopefully there will be no love triangle, cause god knows there is enough love triangles on tv alone. Revolution could be that show that manages to screw with your brain trying to figure out its secret despite some of its more obvious plot points. The pilot of Revolution is decent though. Special Revolution inside look video below.
