Shonen Onmyouji: Worst Dub ever

Today Shonen Onmyouji DVD box set was released by Funimation. The one thing that really grinds my gears (stole it from family guy) is the fact that such an enjoyable anime have such a bad dubbing? I burned the very first episode on dvd so I could watch it and boy my ears were bleeding. But first, look at the good aspects of the anime.

Well the story of Shonen Onmyouji is about Abe no Masahiro, the grandson of the great onmyouji (exorcist) Abe no Semei, who in turn has been passing his teaching onto his grandson. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Masahiro lost his sixth sense and the ability to see spirits and demons. Then one day he meets a strange looking demon and calls it an mononoke, in which later turns into Mokkun. Using Mokkun as his eyes, he helps his grandfather with a local demon problem which results in Masahiro's return of his sixth senses and Mokkun or rather Gurren's true identity. Now that his sixth sense has return, Masahiro and Mokkun set out on Masahiro's road to becoming the greatest onmyouji ever.

I love the humor in this story, especially Masahiro's hate of being called "Seimei's grandson". On top of that, a brilliant storyline that allows the viewer see Masahiro grow into a better onmyouji. Of course the ending leaves room for a sequel, but I highly doubt that. The battles are also very interesting to watch and even better (SPOILER) when Gurren losses control. Don't forget the other 11 spirits (12 in total with Gurren) and the other lovable characters.

The dub just murders this great anime. The voice of Masahiro sounds too much like an immature boy and not a 12 year old. Thats what you get for casting a woman as a young boy right? Mokkun sounds too high pitched and probably would get on your nerves after a while. Gurren's voice sound like a teenage punk and not a old kick butt spirit. I thought his voice would be much deeper and not so teenage. Grandfather sounds like he has something caught in his throat. Overall, no emotion found and it is just awful. I'll stick to the Japanese version thank you very much.
