The Report Card Fight

"Student generates, gathers, and organized ideas to write for an intended purpose and audience."

Report cards over the years have always had these kind of messages within them in order to avoid angry parents. But can you blame them for not wanting to be yelled at by parents? What about telling what needs to be told and not "Your child is doing very well". Well that is good to hear; good at what?

Today on the news when I got home was that someone was taking to this to the federal government to make it law that teacher need to give students a real comment on their reports. Sure it will make the occasional overprotective parent upset but there is a need to know where to improve. Simply put, the area that needs improvement the most so that the student can further improve themselves in the education system. Sure the nice little cute comments can build up your confidence (if you believe it), but confidence can only get you so far.

Personally when I saw the comments on my report for last semester, it made me laugh. IT is interesting to see what things the teachers write. Even teacher know its bad, but they have to do it. But when it is legalized to write the comment you want, will teachers do it? Or will they stick to the old stuff? I'm not a teacher and I don't think like one (thank god for that). It is up to the teacher.
