Supernatural "Do You Believe In Miracles": Plans Don't Always Pan Out

Way to wrap up the season Supernatural with something we touched on before, but actually pulled off this time. Do You Believe In Miracles was a well deserving finale for season 9 and to Supernatural as Dean went over the edge with the Mark of Cain thin and Metatron stepped up his game on his path to becoming god. Not to mention Gadreel's redemption arc as he sees the truth to Metatron's lies. This really brings me to a theme Supernatural likes to use of how good intentions don't always lead to good outcomes. Or rather put, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". It was first used with Sam's demo blood arc, and this time it's with Dean's mark of Cain arc, which we all have to admit is probably Dean's best arc yet. Do You Believe In Miracles was the finale season 9 needed and got, cause honestly I can't wait for season 10.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a look at Do You Believe In Miracles before we crawl away in pain to survive hellatus waiting for season 10 to come. It picks up right after Dean goes mark of Cain crazy on Gadreel, Sam and Castiel are forced to separate Dean from the blade and lock him up in the dungeon. They find Gadreel, and heal his wound. Together they concoct a plan to use the mark of Cain to get rid of Metatron while the angels break into heaven to get the angel tablet. Which happens to be the source of Metatron's god like power. However Dean breaks free with help from Crowley and they begin to track down Metatron who is on earth and going by Marv. As Marv he is performing acts of "God". Sam manages to track Dean down and talks him into teaming up on their plan to take down Metatron.

Do You Believe In Miracles was a nice emotional journey, despite the simple story. When you go into a Supernatural finale you expect, brothers to unite, emotional damage, and something you hadn't thought of. Or something not explored. It's nice to know that Supernatural can still finish strong and leave fans with excitement for the next season. Let's not forget all the fanfiction and hashtags that will follow. Although it does play on the familiar Supernatural theme of brothers trying to save each other, damning the consequences. With the events that has unfolded, you have to wonder how much of it did Crowley play a part in? Also, will Dean think that Sam did this to him instead of Crowley? Just a thought. Someone also brought up the fact that Dean leaving a burger behind of a big show of his psyche and the changes he was going through.Castiel has a good arc for himself going now with his fading grace and him having to now figure out how to save himself. Supernatural has been struggling on what to do with Castiel and finally found something decent. I thought giving Cas knowledge of pop culture would be a bad thing, but it's working for Castiel's character. But then this could be credit to Misha Collins' comedic timing.

Do You Believe in Miracles was not the greatest season finale of Supernatural's long history. Let's state the of moose of the episode, and that was Sam being more than a wallflower who acted to Dean's circumstances. Not to mention locking Dean in a room he was able to get out of and the worst hiding place for the first blade ever. Then there was Gadreel's redemption arc that was short lived. I would have liked to see that play out a bit, and it almost made me forget about Kevin (Miss you buddy). There was even some parts to Do You Believe In Miracles where it kinda got predictable.

So that was season 9 everyone, and it was an uneven season. It wasn't terrible as to season 7's level, but it wasn't up to the higher levels that Supernatural has seen in the past. Do You Believe In Miracles brought a promise made back in early seasons come true which is quite fantastic and canonish. Although it does need to be said that Supernatural needs to end with season 10. Supernatural needs on its own terms and with a bang, or rather a fitting ending for the Winchester Bros. Also the CW needs to stop trying to make a Supernatural spin off. They want to try it again next season, and it won't work unless you have a character people like. Which is why Angel and The Originals were such successful spin offs. Anyways, I will see you guys in the fall with season 10. If not, work has taken over my life. Enjoy Hellatus and the summer.

Did you like the twist at the end? What are your season 10 predictions?
