Sleepy Hollow "The Midnight Ride": Oh My Ichabod

Sleepy Hollow's The Midnight Ride was just the most fantastic episode ever. We saw the return of the horseman, Captain Ivring become a believer, and many things that confuse Ichabod. Did I mention Ichabod gets outraged and confused about a lot of things in The Midnight Ride? The Midnight Ride was just the right amount of everything for Sleepy Hollow as things were beginning to unfold. They had the stuff that was gory, stuff that made you emotional, and stuff that just made you laugh. In a way, that's Sleepy Hollow in a nutshell. Crazy fun for everyone. You have to love it when a show can balance everything everything easily, making the episode itself enjoyable the whole time. What was also interesting was that we saw Ichabod dealing with loss of friends in another war and the emotions he was going through. I think we can expect to see more of that later on. The Midnight Ride has to be one of the best episodes of the season. Still don't ship Ichabbie since I'm still betting on the strength of their partnership.

It all begins in a flashback as The Midnight Ride picks up with the word of the "Regulars" are coming and the original midnight ride (or so Sleepy Hollow has told me) and how the horseman showed up to eliminate them all. Back in modern day, Abbie is stocking supplies to use later and ready themselves for the horseman's return. After his outrage about water, Ichabod plans to meet up with the freemasons and Abbie points out that she wishes she could go, but there is a no female rule. So Abbie decides to go out and get Corbin's shotgun and this is when Luke comes around trying to reconnect with Abbie. On his way to the freemason, Ichabod leaves a vocal letter (no seriously) on Abbie's phone that she should come after all and tells her the location. Upon arrival though, they realize they are too late as the horseman has already arrived and taken their heads. Ichabod soon realizes though that the horseman was looking for his head and the freemasons had figured something out. So Ichabod and Abbie has Captain Irving for the head back (it was submitted as evidence apparently) so they can destroy it.  Using families as guilt trip, Captain Irving is convinced to get the head where he too runs into the horseman, but manages to get away. The next task at hand is to figure out what the freemasons wanted to tell Ichabod before the horseman got to them. Find out if there is a way to trap Death.

A round of a applause for Sleepy Hollow's writers this week with The Midnight Ride and how fantastic it was. Such a amazing episode. There is just so much right in it that I can't get to all of it, but I can try. The main arc that The Midnight Ride dealt with didn't feel like it was heavy at all. Usually when a show goes into it's main arc it feels like it's trying to stuff information into your head and you have to watch closely. The Midnight Ride was carefully woven and placed light moments along the way that didn't seem out of place. Not only that, but it kept you on your toes and was not predictable. The most important element of The Midnight Ride is all the confusion poor Ichabod had to deal with this week, and god I love it. You watch him get angry about the fact that you have to pay for water (The Outage!), and local historian getting history wrong and Ichabod trying to correct him. Trust me there is so much this week that just confuses him that I just can't pick one to point out (although the porn site one is funny). What was even more sweeter was when Irving and Abbie putting Ichabod in place about history. Just when he told he had something over everyone else, haha. That montage of Ichabod and Abbie trying to destroy the skull was pretty amusing as well. Oh ya, Captain Irving is now apart of the team now, which should make somethings easier. In addition to adding more to his character. It is also nice to see Andy (John Cho's character whose name I finally learned) and the headless horseman back to cause trouble. And considering how long it's been since we last saw them.

So now about about The Midnight Ride can I pick on? There was clearly nothing wrong with the episode, but it was just little things I could find. First, I still find the character of Luke annoying, but this is mostly because he is messing is the dynamic and I don't know where he fits into Sleepy Hollow. Seriously, do the writers have a plan for him? My next question is, where did the horse Ichabod rode come from? It just came out of nowhere. The writers probably didn't want to explain it. Like how they didn't keep the freemasons around for long. On the bright side they were used as stepping stones for the plot. Same can be said for Katrina since she appears like every other episode, although news sources say we're going to find out more about her and why shes in Purgatory. My final point of the evening is, how did they make that many skulls in the tie period they had? Did they buy the excess Halloween decorations or something? Just little things to think about since The Midnight Ride is such a well done episode.

The Midnight Ride makes you wonder why all tv shows aren't like this? Sleepy Hollow, why do you keep knocking it out of the park? Ichabod, why do make me love you even more? Why do you keep using things from Supernatural? Although I am madly in love with Supernatural, so it's alright. Now my question is how will this all affect Ichabod? I am interest to see how Irving changes the dynamic of the team and I'm glad my prediction was wrong. I thought he was going to die since things were looking at way, but hey I was wrong and I'm glad I was. This makes me glad that I was right about Sleepy Hollow being a real treat from the beginning. Sleepy Hollow was my choice pilot to watch. This week's winner though of Ichabod verses modern day is Ichabod verses porn, I don't even need to explain why. See you sleepy heads next week.

What Ichabod vs. Modern day was your favorite? What was your favorite part of The Midnight Ride?
