Hello Arrow fans, welcome back after a three week hiatus! This week Arrow returns with Home Invasion picking up with Diggle and Oliver's hunt for Deadshot. In a way the title of Home Invasion both literally and metaphorically referred to the plot of the episode. It is true that a man did invade the Queen mansion. On the not so physical side, Oliver did invade a bit on the relationship between Laurel and Tommy while causing tension between him and Diggle. In short, shit went down. Oh did I mention a betrayal happened during the flashbacks too? You know in between Oliver learning how to shoot a bow. All good things have to come to an end.
So this week began with Oliver and Diggle training together to takedown Deadshot while in another part of the city Deadshot takes out another target. Due to her hacking of the CIA Felicity knows that Deadshot is in town and informs the boys. Diggle tries to get help from his CIA friend, but is shut out when she reveals she knows Diggle's personal investment in this. Thanks to Felicity's hacking though, they know the CIA's plans to catch Deadshot. During this time Oliver goes to visit Laurel when he meets her clients. Later in the night they are murdered except for the child who escaped, and Laurel decides to take the child in until the trial is over. Oliver decides that he needs to help protect Laurel and the child and manages to arrive in time when they are attacked. Soon they are moved to the Queen mansion for protection. Oliver soon is forced to choose between Diggle and Laurel.
So it's great that Arrow returned this week and Home Invasion really did a number of the relationships within the Arrow universe. Then again this drama was bound to happen at some point since Arrow is a drama. There is the obvious Tommy/Laurel drama in their relationship as Oliver begins showing interest in Laurel once again. It was really a betting race on how long that relationship would last, and comic fans knew that it enviable. Even though the two have been apart for the majority of the season, we have seen in flashbacks how Laurel's memory helped Oliver through the island. Not to mention that there has been casting glances between the two and how in the comics they are together. So there is still hope for that ship (Oliver/Laurel). There was some development in the Oliver and Diggle relationship as it finally hits the tension point as the hunt for Deadshot was nearing. The one thing that meant everything to Diggle and Oliver blew it. This is gonna affect Oliver in future episodes since he lost one of his main supporters. On the positive side, Roy and Thea's relationship looks steady as Thea agrees to help him find the vigilante since it meant a lot to him. My favorite line of the line goes to those two with; "Is that a police radio in your pocket?" "Or I'm just happy to see you". Pure comic gold.
Now with Home Invasion putting all the relationships to the test, there was not much else to it. It was a filler episode as the main arc wasn't touched at all during the hour. There was a looming Tommy around every corner. The CIA agents were not so stealthy, which is why Deadshot knew it was a trap. I mean should spies be more ninja like? I also love how they were talking about how secure the Queen mansion was when this one guy just walks in and starts blasting people. Thank god Oliver is ninja enough for them all. I would like to point out the morality of Diggle's request of Oliver. He is basically asking Oliver to kill someone for him. Like a professional killer like Deadshot himself. Recently Oliver has been forced to face the idea that he is a killer thanks to Tommy pointing it out. I think Oliver is distrubted by this idea, and Diggle is blinded by his hatred for Deadshot he probably doesn't notice this change in Oliver. Although I could be reading into this too much.
Home Invasion was a decent filler episode for Arrow as the show proves it doesn't need to totally depend on the main story arc to have a good episode. It also further proved to me that I have this soft spot for Thea/Roy's relationship as they are just so cute together. I also have a feeling that Oliver might go off the rails a bit without Diggle around. Although I don't see Diggle getting his revenge anytime soon since Deadshot is supposed to be Green Arrow's nemesis right? See you all next week then, and if you excuse me, I'm going to find some Thea/Roy videos.
Do you ship Laurel/Tommy or Laurel/Oliver? What did you think of this week's baddie?
