Doctor Who "Asylum of the Daleks": Daleks Are Changing Their Game

They weren't kidding when they said that Asylum of the Daleks felt like a movie. Moffat managed to throw us a bunch of mind boggles throughout the episode. This is really thanks to the dedication of the fans, staff and actors of Doctor Who. Especially with the appearance of you-know-who (not Voldemort).

Doctor Who kicked off with the Doctor still in hiding and the Ponds getting a divorce. The Daleks have other plans as they kidnap all three and bring them before the Dalek counsel. Together the Dalek demand them to bring down the force field around their asylum so they can blow it up. The gang is soon beamed down to the planet and Rory ends up right in the asylum, thus causing the Doctor and Amy to go after him. Without giving too much more about the episode, the asylum is filled with a couple of surprises of its own that challenge and surprise the Doctor.

There was a lot about this episode that made me squee at my television and give props to Moffat for his work. First of all, human Daleks! The Daleks have finally figured out how to turn humans to walking versions of themselves through a nano cloud of something. Dead or alive! These new human Daleks can also use their human memories at will and can trap people with them (like we saw with the Doctor). What they manage to pull in the end with [SPOILER] is just down right scary and sad. This lead to the question being asked, "Dr. Who!" Is this what the Silence was fearing? Anyone other than me think this was the moment the question was asked? Its twists like these that make me love Doctor Who even more.

I can't say that Asylum of the Daleks is ranking up in my favorite episodes category. It was a great episode, but to me it wasn't as strong as the Impossible Astronaut. Then again it was not a two parter opener either. Asylum of the Daleks didn't have much of the usual Doctor's silliness in it as he was forced to deal with his worst enemy. Its the humor that I love about Doctor Who as much as the adventuring. Keep in mind this is my opinion.

Asylum of the Daleks is good episode with a bunch of great surprises that the informed audience is going to love. Sorry if I ruined anything, I do try to keep my reviews spoiler review as possible. Moffat will not disappoint you with this premiere of the seventh season of Doctor Who. The question is now, how do dinosaurs get on a space ship? Promo for the next episode below.
