Legend of the Seeker: The Epic Fantasy Adventure

You know, I had always thought that Legend of the Seeker was the title of a movie rather than a television show, but a friend of mine had told me that it actually was a television show based on a novel (Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind). So my curiosity was peaked since I knew it was a fantasy adventure and checked it out myself. After countless hours of watching, I soon grew fond of Legend of the Seeker, but more specially of it main characters. They were beautifully written and acted. I really cannot imagine anyone other than the actors chosen to be these characters. Although, people who have read the books first, be warned that it doesn't follow the books closely as tv shows tend to take liberties. The downside, after two seasons, Legend of the Seeker was cancelled and that was it for show. Legend of the Seeker ran from 2008-2010.

It all began in a small region of Westwood where Richard Cypher (Craig Horner) lived an ordinary life until confessor Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan) had broken through the boundary with D'Harns in tow. Richard saves her, but Kahlan brushes him aside in her search for first wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (Bruce Spence) and the seeker. Zedd soon reveals that Richard is the true seeker who is destined to kill Darkern Rahl (Craig Parker), the tyrant of the Midlands. Richard is hesitant to take the title, but after complicated events, he takes on the title of the seeker and sets out on his quest. On his quest he is aided by Zedd and Kahlan as they fend off threats of all kinds. Along the way they discover more about themselves and the world around them.

I would have loved to see more Legend of the Seeker happen since it was a well made show. What I really love though was the relationship between Richard and Kahlan. They went through so much, but continued to love each other and worked together beautifully. Credit can be given to the actors who had such great chemistry with each other that it made it beautiful to watch. In addition I can't imagine anyone but Craig Horner and Bridget Regan portraying Richard and Kahlan. Craig Horner had brought this boy like charm to Richard that made you can't help but like him (and his body). Bridget Regan for Kahlan brought this elegance and caring personality to her character that you can feel it from the screen. The same can be said for the rest of the cast who did fantastic jobs. Now off the topic of acting, I must add that the music and scenery was quite well done. Then again, what do you expect when you film in New Zealand. In a nut shell though, Legend of the Seeker was one of the few fantasy shows that didn't needed cheap shot drama (love triangles), but rather let the character draw you in.

Despite all the good, there had to be a reason to why Legend of the Seeker was cancelled. I'll tell you it wasn't because the show wasn't good enough, because it certainly was good enough. From what I understand it was because there was a studio or production company willing to take on the show. There was still qualities Legend of the Seeker had flawed though. Legend of the Seeker felt the need to separate the main gang up for different missions, and sometimes it really felt forced. In a way, Legend of the Seeker felt like a love story within an adventure and it probably isn't something for those of you who that aren't romantics and are more for the adventure. True book fans might not like how Legend of the Seeker takes liberties with it's story and begins to stray from the book. The third option is for those who do not like unfulfilled endings that series get when they get cancelled before they could end it the right way. The ending wasn't terrible, it just set up another plot point that will never be used. Either that, or you not that into the Fantasy genre.

So everything summed up, I enjoyed watching Legend of the Seeker and wished there was more. I guess there is always the book series, which I am going to start reading soon to see what happens to the gang later on. Legend of the Seeker has made me a Richard/Kahlan shipper now. If you are interested in seeing the show revived, there is a group called Save Our Seeker that you can check out. I would like to see Richard and Kahlan's story tied up on screen with the actors one last time. Trailer for the first season below.
Will you check out Legend of the Seeker? Will you read the book series?

  1. Outstanding series!! SYFY should pick it up cause it beats the hell out of that ghost crap they seem to want to fill the channel with.

    1. I agree, there's almost nothing but ghost type crap on, the only thing I can figure, is somehow they don't realize that it's the most boring thing they show.

I read the book series first, and didn't get to see the whole show, I agree that it would be nice to see on SYFY.
