Beauty and the Beast "On Thin Ice": Shakey Ground

You know, I had hoped Beauty and the Beast wouldn't dive into the whole love triangle thing with On Thin Ice, but my hopes were misplaced. Although I kept my mouth shut throughout the whole episode, I was screaming on the inside about it all. Like how Vincent kept trying to go for Catherine, but would still hang with Alex. Not to mention the little crime mystery inside On Thin Ice, was quite obvious and done before earlier on Beauty and the Beast. The only thing that truly worked for On Thin Ice was the Murfield plot and Evan's search for the mysterious creature. Ugh, I dislike love triangles.

So On Thin Ice begins with Catherine back on her feet and working towards getting re-instated as an officer of the law. Vincent pops by as usual to see how she is doing and helps Cat with her physical theory. Vincent attempts to reach about about them, but Catherine tells Vincent that she doesn't know where they stand. Vincent later on visits Alex for some reason, and she surprises him by walking in with only a towel and dropping it. Back at the loft, Vincent tells JT he had planned to break it off with Alex, but the towel happened. Vincent mentions he still has feelings for her, but doesn't want to drag her into all this. Insert JT supporting team Catherine. Back to Catherine, she finds herself in therapy venting about her issues with Vincent. Can you blame her? Skipping ahead, Catherine soon finds herself bored out of her mind at the precinct and listens in on a case that Tess is working on. Catherine soon becomes annoyed with how close Vincent is getting to Alex, and in addition to having to put her job on the line again to protect them both.

As much as On Thin Ice made me sigh every time Vincent hung out with Alex, there were somethings I did like. I am obviously a fan of JT giving a voice to Team Catherine and voicing a voice to all of us other there rooting for that side of the relationship. It took a while for JT to warm up to her, but now he trusts her and has stopped the whole leave us alone act. In fact, the whole Evan and JT team up was one of the more interesting plot points of On Thin Ice. JT is obviously only helping Evan though in order to help Vincent. As for Evan, it is excellent he is officially out of the romance race (stick to friend status bro). I also like the Murfield development in BatB, and love how conniving they are. Hopefully this will pay off in the future.

With all that just, On Thin Ice was not my favorite episode, and it was not because of the love triangle. I didn't mind the Evan one too much, because I knew Evan stood no chance, but Alex seemed to wiggle her way back into Vincent's life quite easily. Yes it was nice for Vincent to forget he was being hunted, but Vincent should forget that he will always be chased by Murfield. Not to mention this whole going out in public goes against everything Vincent used to stand for in earlier episodes. Sure knowing Catherine made he take chances, but not waltzing around in a makeshift hospital and breaking into an ice rink. Vincent had deserved Catherine's anger there. Now for the crime mystery aspect of On Thin Ice, the writers decided to go at it old school and choose the easiest plot there was. Anyone could guess who really committed the murder and how the character wasn't written well enough to make it seem like it could not be her. It's always the other woman right? Also love how Tess forgot Catherine was on leave and totally let her help on the case.

I could go on and on about how I dislike love triangles, but I think I have said enough today. Chances are I'll probably rant about it next week. Props this episode goes to Catherine, who finally opened her heart to Vincent this week. Although my heart broke when he SPOILER SPOILER. Anyways, looking forward to seeing what Murfield has up their selves next week, and hopefully it won't end up like Basic Instincts.
