Supernatural 'What's Up, Tiger Mommy?': Winchesters and Trans Unite

Within the first few minutes of What's Up, Tiger Mommy? I was hooked. I love the direction that Supernatural is going in the new season already. What's Up, Tiger Mommy? was an excellent mix of drama, humor and action that Supernatural was meant to give audiences. With the minor flashback to purgatory, Supernatural focused this episode on the present as the gang went to hunt down the tablet Kevin hid from Crowley.

So following the events of We Need To Talk About Kevin, Kevin is now traveling with the Winchesters and demands that they go and get his mother. Dean is opposed to this, but with Sam on Kevin's side, they soon head out to Neighbor, Michigan to get Mrs. Tran. As they thought, she was unknowingly surrounded by demons and the Winchesters plow through the demons to reunited the Trans. Of course not after a face full of holy water to make sure she was not a demon. They inform her of the situation, and like the tiger mommy she is, demands to come along too. A couple tattoos, and tears later, they are on they way to retrieving the tablet, only to discover it is not where Kevin left it.

This leads to the hunt for the tablet's last whereabouts as they track it all over the place. The Trans even help out in the search as they use their knowledge to get the answers they need. During this hunt, Dean gets a flashback of Purgatory where he is looking for Castiel and is capturing monsters for intel. They finally get a solid lead when they find out that the tablet is being sold at an auction for anyone and anything. Inside they meet Crowley, who is also there to get the tablet, and Sam and Dean quickly resort to other options to get the tablet (I kinda like plan D). The auction does end, but at a price the Winchesters did not expect.

Within the first few minutes of What's Up, Tiger Mommy?, I was hooked and in love with this episode. Moment after moment it kept delivering the goods. Whether it was Sam throwing Thor's hammer, or Dean freaking out about Sam wanting to sell the Impala. This episode was down right awesome. It was the surprises that made this episode such a treasure. Who would have thought saying the exorcism backwards would put the demon back into its vessel? Sam did. Dean fans can like the scenes where Dean was just an outright bad ass. There is just so many moments in this episode I could just gush on and on about. The moments that hit home were the scenes between Castiel and Dean and the final scene with Kevin. Both are heartbreaking as the characters are showing their emotional side and they are clearly hurting. Like when Dean found out that Castiel actually had abandoned him, but Castiel reveals it was for Dean's own good. What really broke my heart was the scene with Kevin, as Crowley continues to torment him.

What's up, Tiger Mommy? also finally put to rest one of the biggest arguments that have broken out in Supernatural. What is Crowley? Fans finally saw Crowley's lovely red eyes (even though it was through SPOILER'S eyes) and red smoke, proving that Crowley is after all a demon. Other than that, Crowley is really proving to be a great villain we all knew he was. The little bugger just needed a goal.

Down side to What's Up, Tiger Mommy?, there wasn't much Castiel. Castiel fans were treated to a small 5-10 minute scene of Castiel squatting next to a river when Dean found him. For those who wanted Castiel you got him, but you didn't find out his fate just yet. Not to mention the ending scene didn't help at other than pull at our heartstrings. Nothing else about this episode that didn't work. In fact, I refuse to look for any. Although I was a bit confused as of why the Winchesters didn't fight to keep Mrs.Tran's soul when she offered it. It was as if they knew they had no other choice and just gave up.

Supernatural is on a roll this season as it rolled out two strong episodes in a row. I will miss Kevin though, but we all know we're going to see him again. What's Up, Tiger Mommy? also gave a bunch of new quotes that I just love and probably will use ("Maybe you should try Plan "D" for dumbass."). So begins the arc of look for Kevin and the tablet as the Winchesters incorporate that while hunting again. This is very similar to the find Dad and hunt things moto they had back in season 1. Next week Heartache, a Jensen Ackles directed episode, airs and we will see some of Sam's time in the last year.

What did you think of the episode? What happened to Castiel? Will Sam keep the hammer?
